Changing Lives Since 2010

Established in 2010, CURE Niger is the only hospital in the country of over 24 million people that offers specialty surgical care for children living with treatable physical disabilities. The teaching hospital has 25 beds, two operating rooms, and an outpatient clinic. In addition to world-class clinical service, CURE Niger ministers to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their communities.

Farida | Brittle Bone Disease

Before Surgery

Farida was one of three sisters born with brittle bone disease, which caused their bones to bend and frequently break. It kept them isolated from their community and unable to walk.

After Surgery

At CURE, all three sisters received many surgeries and learned about God’s great love for them. Today, they are walking and transformed from the inside out!

Claude Akakpo

Executive Director

Claude Akakpo, MD, has served as the Executive Director of CURE Niger since September 2024. In this role, he maintains overall accountability for the hospital’s operational, financial, spiritual, and clinical well-being. Working at CURE, Claude enjoys combining his passion for Jesus Christ with his skills as a clinician and manager.

Claude is a dermatologist by training but has spent much of his professional career in hospital administration across West Africa. He has a medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine in Lomé, Togo, and an Executive MBA from the Canadian University of Arts, Sciences, and Management in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. A native French speaker originally from Togo, he most recently lived in Bamako, Mali, where he helped manage a hospital.

Outside of his work at CURE, Claude enjoys attending worship and spending time with his wife, Patricia, and their four children, Wilfried, Carmen, Elisabeth, and David.

Boris Dohou

Financial Controller

Boris serves as the financial controller for CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. In this role, he helps to oversee the financial management of the hospital’s activities—and he’s excited to contribute to the work of helping kids heal.

He received his Bachelor of Accounting and Financial Technical Sciences, and his Masters in ACC (accounting, control, audit) from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce et Administration des Entreprises du Niger (Higher School of Commerce and Business Administration of Niger).

In his spare time, Boris likes to play piano, attend church, and eat at restaurants with his family.

Div Du Plessis

Facility Manager

Div oversees all the preventative and corrective maintenance at CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger—ensuring the equipment and buildings function as a safe place for surgeries. In this role, he gets to do what he loves: working with people, solving problems, sharing kingdom values, serving children and giving them hope.

Since 2000, Div has been involved in missions construction and discipleship training. He worked in civil services for Township Development, building roads, working in water development, and constructing houses. He received a national diploma for technicians and a bachelor’s in civil engineering—both in South Africa.

In his spare time, Div likes reading, eating good food, and enjoying nature. He and his wife Eleanor share two children and four grandchildren.

Ramatou Gaultier

Programs and Development Manager

Ramatou serves as the Programs and Development Manager at CURE Niger. She oversees the management and growth of the hospital’s programs, including raising awareness among partners and donors, and works closely with the data department to assess program performance. She also supervises the security department, among other duties.

Ramatou holds an associate’s, a bachelor’s, and a master’s degree in applied foreign languages (English and Spanish), with a speciality in business and trade, from the University of Orléans in France. She worked as an Export Manager for a French steel and building materials trading company for 12 years before running her own trading company in Paris for 8 years, exporting steel products to Africa.

She’s excited to be with CURE, contributing to the healing of children with disabilities, giving them hope for the future and the chance to live full lives like their peers. Outside of work, Ramatou enjoys movies, walking in nature, cooking, and going to restaurants with her family and friends. She’s married to Pascal, and they have two children.

Dr. Fasto Yugusuk Ladu

Medical Director

Dr. Fasto Ladu serves as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and medical director at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. In this role, he is responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards of surgical and medical care for the patients CURE treats. He views serving children as a way of serving God, and he believes surgical scars demonstrate the hope, faith, and love of Jesus.

Prior to joining CURE Niger in 2021, Dr. Fasto served as a medical officer and as a general orthopedic surgeon at several hospitals and health centers in South Sudan, South Korea, and Ethiopia. In 2019, he joined the team at CURE Kenya, where he served as the program manager for training, research, and development.

Dr. Fasto received his medical degree at the University of Bahar El-Ghazal College of Medicine and Health Sciences in South Sudan and was a surgical fellow at the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH).  He completed postgraduate training in pediatric orthopedic surgery at CURE Kenya in partnership with The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and through the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS).

In his spare time, Dr. Fasto enjoys spending time with his family, his friends, and with God. He is married to Anita and they have four daughters: Keji, Poni, Jowan, and Abong.

Jacob Charles Lankoande

Human Resources Manager

Jacob serves as the human resources manager for CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. In this role, he manages hospital personnel, assists the management team, and coordinates the administrative activities. He is passionate about advancing the mission of CURE to heal more kids.

Prior to joining the CURE team, Jacob spent four years in the human resources department at Sogea-Satom Niger, Vinci Construction Group—and he did a stint at World Vision’s human resources department. He has his bachelors in communication from Technicien Superieur d’Etat, and he earned a Master 1 in Human Resources Management from ESIMAD Academy Niger.

When he’s not serving with CURE, Jacob enjoys playing the guitar and drums—and football! He is married to Armel, and they have a daughter, Malika.

Emanuel Mayaki

Spiritual Director

Emanuel Mayaki serves as the spiritual director at CURE Niger. In his position, he is responsible for leading the spiritual life at the hospital. He guides patients, families, and staff by engaging in spiritual ministry activities. Emanuel served as spiritual director assistant from 2016 to 2021, so he is familiar with life at CURE Niger.

Emanuel holds a bachelor’s degree in English and humanities from Abdou Moumouni University. He has further developed his skills with training and professional development through various courses. Emanuel is excited to serve patients and their families in need of Jesus’s love.

Outside of work, he enjoys reading and learning. Emanuel is married to his wife, Dorcas, and they have a son, Josué Mainassara Emanuel.

Peace Otono

Quality and Patient Safety Manager

Peace serves as a Quality and Patient Safety Manager at CURE Niger. She ensures the provision of efficient and effective leadership in quality improvement and patient safety.

Peace graduated from the Institute Superieure de Sante (College of Health) in Niamey, with a bachelor’s and master’s in nursing. Before coming to CURE, she worked as an intern in the emergency ward at National Hospital in Niamey for one year. She loves taking care of kids and having the opportunity to offer them a safe place and the assurance of receiving excellent medical treatment at CURE.

Outside of work, Peace enjoys swimming, spending time with her friends and family, and organizing different events.

Kristina Smith

Manager of Nursing Services

Kristina serves as CURE Niger’s Manager of Nursing Services. She ensures that each patient care department is up to standard and follows relevant policies and guidelines. She also supervises nursing services hospital-wide, maintaining patient safety.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Kristina has a bachelor and a master of science in nursing and has been a Registered Nurse since 2006 and a Nurse Practitioner since 2015. She also has a master’s in Christian ministry and is working on a master of public health.

When she is not serving at CURE, Kristina enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Dr. Hama Alkassimi

General Practitioner

Hama is a General Practitioner at CURE Niger responsible for consulting with patients and surgeons, as well as caring for patients staying in the hospital’s long-term care wing. In his role, he loves the challenge that comes with helping kids heal physically and emotionally as they integrate back into their communities.

Hama graduated from Abdou Moumouni University with his general practitioner’s license. Prior to joining CURE, he served as general practitioner at the Monde Action (an NGO) and at Clinique Pediatrique Antara.

In his spare time, he enjoys watching football, playing games, and walking in nature.

Dr. Andrew Amata

Anesthesiologist

Dr. Amata serves as a Consultant Anesthesiologist at CURE Zambia. Prior to joining CURE, he served in Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies.  Over the years, Dr. Amata has served in a variety of locations including Guyana, Kenya, United States, Nigeria, United Kingdom, and Burkina Faso.  He holds a postgraduate diploma in anesthesiology from the University of Benin in Nigeria and completed fellowships in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC; in pain management at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; and traditional Chinese medicine from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.  In 2006, he board certified with the American Board of Hospice & Palliative Medicine.

Zalika Hamidou

Medical Officer

As a medical officer with CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger, Zalika consults with patients and assists surgeons in their medical evaluations. One of her favorite perks of working at CURE? She says, “I love kids!”

Zalika previously worked as a medical officer at National Hospital and Reference Hospital in Niger. She studied general medicine at the University Abdou Moumouni, and also specialized in nutrition. She holds a doctorate in medicine.

Zalika is married to Nasser and they have two children: Nabila and Al Amine.

Dr. Na Omi Dan Karami

General Practitioner

Na Omi is a General Practitioner at CURE Niger, consulting with patients, medical staff, and families. At CURE, she loves giving children hope for the future.

She studied at Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry (UGANC) in the Faculty of Health Science and Technology. Prior to joining CURE, she worked at Centre Hospitalier Regional (CHR) as a general practitioner in the pediatric department.

In her free time, she enjoys sewing and spending time with her family—including her husband, Amos.

Dr. Ousmane Hamady Issa

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Ousmane Hamady Issa has served as a part-time surgeon and surgical consultant at CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger since 2015. He’s also the Medical Director of another NGO called Hilfsaktion Noma, as well as head of the Noma Clinic in Niamey. 

Dr. Issa received his doctorate in medicine from Abdou Moumouni University, a degree in microsurgery, and then specialized in plastic reconstruction through multiple training courses thereafter.

He has a passion for helping children with treatable disabilities through reconstructive surgery and increasing their confidence through his care. 

Dr. Fasto Yugusuk Ladu

Medical Director

Dr. Fasto Ladu serves as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and medical director at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. In this role, he is responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards of surgical and medical care for the patients CURE treats. He views serving children as a way of serving God, and he believes surgical scars demonstrate the hope, faith, and love of Jesus.

Dr. Anthony Nesoah

General Surgeon

Dr. Anthony Nesoah serves a General Surgeon at CURE Niger and has extensive exposure and experience in global and tropical surgery spanning over twenty years of training, studying, and working in multiple countries. Most recently, he worked as the Chief of Surgery and Chief Medical Officer at Presbyterian General Hospital in Kumba, Cameroon.

Dr. Nesoah holds degrees from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with additional training, fellowships, and certifications from a number of other institutions and organizations, including PAACS and COSECSA.

His wife, Joy, is a registered surgical nurse, and they live in Niamey with their son, Gilwiklund.

Dr. Anthony Olasinde

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Anthony serves as a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at CURE Niger. He has a bachelor of medicine, a bachelor of surgery, and a master’s in public health from Obafemi Awolowo University. He did his residency training in orthopedic surgery and traumatology with the West African College of Surgeons and completed a fellowship in limb deformity correction at Agrawal Orthopaedic Hospital.

Prior to CURE, he worked as a consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at the Federal Medical Center in Owo, Nigeria, where he started a Ponseti clubfoot clinic and was in charge of the pediatric orthopedic unit and trained residents. From 2021 to 2023, he served in Uganda with the Technical Aids Corps through Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Anthony enjoys working at CURE because it allows him to participate in the comprehensive care of children made vulnerable by disability, converting their disabilities into abilities.

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. Anthony enjoys listening to sermons, reading books, and playing games.

He is married to Moyinoluwa, and together they have three boys—Tife, Tise, and Temmy.

Dr. Simon Schlaefer

General Surgeon

Dr. Simon Schlaefer serves as General Surgeon at CURE Niger. He graduated from medical school at Charles University in Prague in 2011 and then spent six years working in different hospitals in Germany, specializing in common and visceral surgery. He then worked as a Senior Surgeon at Klinikum Memmingen, a hospital in Memmingen, Germany. He has also done two short-term hospital assignments in Niger and Uganda.

Because he loves the Word of God and His church, Dr. Simon also did some training in church ministry at the European Bible Training Center in Zürich, Switzerland.

Serving at CURE Niger allows Dr. Simon to live out his two biggest passions: sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and providing practical help through surgery to children who desperately need it.

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. Simon enjoys spending time with God, his family, and his friends. He also likes playing a variety of sports and reading good books.

Dr. Uli Seeberger

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Uli Seeberger serves as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. She obtained her license to practice medicine in 2006 in Germany and has worked as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon in Arnstadt, Germany since 2019. She has a Master of Science in International Public Health and has been a part of several medical mission trips to Africa and Asia between 2009 – 2019.

Ramatou Gaultier

Programs and Development Manager

Ramatou serves as the Programs and Development Manager at CURE Niger. She oversees the management and growth of the hospital’s programs, including raising awareness among partners and donors, and works closely with the data department to assess program performance. She also supervises the security department, among other duties.

Ramatou holds an associate’s, a bachelor’s, and a master’s degree in applied foreign languages (English and Spanish), with a speciality in business and trade, from the University of Orléans in France. She worked as an Export Manager for a French steel and building materials trading company for 12 years before running her own trading company in Paris for 8 years, exporting steel products to Africa.

She’s excited to be with CURE, contributing to the healing of children with disabilities, giving them hope for the future and the chance to live full lives like their peers. Outside of work, Ramatou enjoys movies, walking in nature, cooking, and going to restaurants with her family and friends. She’s married to Pascal, and they have two children.

Dr. Fasto Yugusuk Ladu

Medical Director

Dr. Fasto Ladu serves as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and medical director at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. In this role, he is responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards of surgical and medical care for the patients CURE treats. He views serving children as a way of serving God, and he believes surgical scars demonstrate the hope, faith, and love of Jesus.

Prior to joining CURE Niger in 2021, Dr. Fasto served as a medical officer and as a general orthopedic surgeon at several hospitals and health centers in South Sudan, South Korea, and Ethiopia. In 2019, he joined the team at CURE Kenya, where he served as the program manager for training, research, and development.

Dr. Fasto received his medical degree at the University of Bahar El-Ghazal College of Medicine and Health Sciences in South Sudan and was a surgical fellow at the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH).  He completed postgraduate training in pediatric orthopedic surgery at CURE Kenya in partnership with The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and through the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS).

In his spare time, Dr. Fasto enjoys spending time with his family, his friends, and with God. He is married to Anita and they have four daughters: Keji, Poni, Jowan, and Abong.

Jacob Charles Lankoande

Human Resources Manager

Jacob serves as the human resources manager for CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. In this role, he manages hospital personnel, assists the management team, and coordinates the administrative activities. He is passionate about advancing the mission of CURE to heal more kids.

Prior to joining the CURE team, Jacob spent four years in the human resources department at Sogea-Satom Niger, Vinci Construction Group—and he did a stint at World Vision’s human resources department. He has his bachelors in communication from Technicien Superieur d’Etat, and he earned a Master 1 in Human Resources Management from ESIMAD Academy Niger.

When he’s not serving with CURE, Jacob enjoys playing the guitar and drums—and football! He is married to Armel, and they have a daughter, Malika.

Emanuel Mayaki

Spiritual Director

Emanuel Mayaki serves as the spiritual director at CURE Niger. In his position, he is responsible for leading the spiritual life at the hospital. He guides patients, families, and staff by engaging in spiritual ministry activities. Emanuel served as spiritual director assistant from 2016 to 2021, so he is familiar with life at CURE Niger.

Emanuel holds a bachelor’s degree in English and humanities from Abdou Moumouni University. He has further developed his skills with training and professional development through various courses. Emanuel is excited to serve patients and their families in need of Jesus’s love.

Outside of work, he enjoys reading and learning. Emanuel is married to his wife, Dorcas, and they have a son, Josué Mainassara Emanuel.

Peace Otono

Quality and Patient Safety Manager

Peace serves as a Quality and Patient Safety Manager at CURE Niger. She ensures the provision of efficient and effective leadership in quality improvement and patient safety.

Peace graduated from the Institute Superieure de Sante (College of Health) in Niamey, with a bachelor’s and master’s in nursing. Before coming to CURE, she worked as an intern in the emergency ward at National Hospital in Niamey for one year. She loves taking care of kids and having the opportunity to offer them a safe place and the assurance of receiving excellent medical treatment at CURE.

Outside of work, Peace enjoys swimming, spending time with her friends and family, and organizing different events.

Kristina Smith

Manager of Nursing Services

Kristina serves as CURE Niger’s Manager of Nursing Services. She ensures that each patient care department is up to standard and follows relevant policies and guidelines. She also supervises nursing services hospital-wide, maintaining patient safety.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Kristina has a bachelor and a master of science in nursing and has been a Registered Nurse since 2006 and a Nurse Practitioner since 2015. She also has a master’s in Christian ministry and is working on a master of public health.

When she is not serving at CURE, Kristina enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Dr. Hama Alkassimi

General Practitioner

Hama is a General Practitioner at CURE Niger responsible for consulting with patients and surgeons, as well as caring for patients staying in the hospital’s long-term care wing. In his role, he loves the challenge that comes with helping kids heal physically and emotionally as they integrate back into their communities.

Hama graduated from Abdou Moumouni University with his general practitioner’s license. Prior to joining CURE, he served as general practitioner at the Monde Action (an NGO) and at Clinique Pediatrique Antara.

In his spare time, he enjoys watching football, playing games, and walking in nature.

Dr. Andrew Amata

Anesthesiologist

Dr. Amata serves as a Consultant Anesthesiologist at CURE Zambia. Prior to joining CURE, he served in Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies.  Over the years, Dr. Amata has served in a variety of locations including Guyana, Kenya, United States, Nigeria, United Kingdom, and Burkina Faso.  He holds a postgraduate diploma in anesthesiology from the University of Benin in Nigeria and completed fellowships in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC; in pain management at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; and traditional Chinese medicine from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.  In 2006, he board certified with the American Board of Hospice & Palliative Medicine.

Zalika Hamidou

Medical Officer

As a medical officer with CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger, Zalika consults with patients and assists surgeons in their medical evaluations. One of her favorite perks of working at CURE? She says, “I love kids!”

Zalika previously worked as a medical officer at National Hospital and Reference Hospital in Niger. She studied general medicine at the University Abdou Moumouni, and also specialized in nutrition. She holds a doctorate in medicine.

Zalika is married to Nasser and they have two children: Nabila and Al Amine.

Dr. Na Omi Dan Karami

General Practitioner

Na Omi is a General Practitioner at CURE Niger, consulting with patients, medical staff, and families. At CURE, she loves giving children hope for the future.

She studied at Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry (UGANC) in the Faculty of Health Science and Technology. Prior to joining CURE, she worked at Centre Hospitalier Regional (CHR) as a general practitioner in the pediatric department.

In her free time, she enjoys sewing and spending time with her family—including her husband, Amos.

Dr. Ousmane Hamady Issa

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Ousmane Hamady Issa has served as a part-time surgeon and surgical consultant at CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger since 2015. He’s also the Medical Director of another NGO called Hilfsaktion Noma, as well as head of the Noma Clinic in Niamey. 

Dr. Issa received his doctorate in medicine from Abdou Moumouni University, a degree in microsurgery, and then specialized in plastic reconstruction through multiple training courses thereafter.

He has a passion for helping children with treatable disabilities through reconstructive surgery and increasing their confidence through his care.

Dr. Anthony Nesoah

General Surgeon

Dr. Anthony Nesoah serves a General Surgeon at CURE Niger and has extensive exposure and experience in global and tropical surgery spanning over twenty years of training, studying, and working in multiple countries. Most recently, he worked as the Chief of Surgery and Chief Medical Officer at Presbyterian General Hospital in Kumba, Cameroon.

Dr. Nesoah holds degrees from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with additional training, fellowships, and certifications from a number of other institutions and organizations, including PAACS and COSECSA.

His wife, Joy, is a registered surgical nurse, and they live in Niamey with their son, Gilwiklund.

Dr. Anthony Olasinde

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Anthony serves as a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at CURE Niger. He has a bachelor of medicine, a bachelor of surgery, and a master’s in public health from Obafemi Awolowo University. He did his residency training in orthopedic surgery and traumatology with the West African College of Surgeons and completed a fellowship in limb deformity correction at Agrawal Orthopaedic Hospital.

Prior to CURE, he worked as a consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at the Federal Medical Center in Owo, Nigeria, where he started a Ponseti clubfoot clinic and was in charge of the pediatric orthopedic unit and trained residents. From 2021 to 2023, he served in Uganda with the Technical Aids Corps through Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Anthony enjoys working at CURE because it allows him to participate in the comprehensive care of children made vulnerable by disability, converting their disabilities into abilities.

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. Anthony enjoys listening to sermons, reading books, and playing games.

He is married to Moyinoluwa, and together they have three boys—Tife, Tise, and Temmy.

Dr. Simon Schlaefer

General Surgeon

Dr. Simon Schlaefer serves as General Surgeon at CURE Niger. He graduated from medical school at Charles University in Prague in 2011 and then spent six years working in different hospitals in Germany, specializing in common and visceral surgery. He then worked as a Senior Surgeon at Klinikum Memmingen, a hospital in Memmingen, Germany. He has also done two short-term hospital assignments in Niger and Uganda.

Because he loves the Word of God and His church, Dr. Simon also did some training in church ministry at the European Bible Training Center in Zürich, Switzerland.

Serving at CURE Niger allows Dr. Simon to live out his two biggest passions: sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and providing practical help through surgery to children who desperately need it.

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. Simon enjoys spending time with God, his family, and his friends. He also likes playing a variety of sports and reading good books.

Dr. Uli Seeberger

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Uli Seeberger serves as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Niger. She obtained her license to practice medicine in 2006 in Germany and has worked as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon in Arnstadt, Germany since 2019. She has a Master of Science in International Public Health and has been a part of several medical mission trips to Africa and Asia between 2009 – 2019.
