“When I grow-up, I want to be a doctor!” Diso tells us.
Diso has had clubfoot on both feet since birth and this is her first time coming to a hospital for treatment. Her parents heard about Cheshire homes and took her to the organization to help navigate living with a disability. The organization brought her to CURE Ethiopia hospital and she has started her treatment here. “I was in school and I was in grade four, but I could not continue my school because it is far from my house and it hurts my feet to walk long distance.” explains Diso and she continued, “It has been more than a year since I stopped school and I want to be healed and continue my school.” Diso has two sisters and both of her parents are farmers. Diso told us that kids at her school back home make fun of her foot and her way of walking and that always makes her very sad. Join us welcoming Diso and we invite you to be part of her life changing journey!
Diso came back for her check-up today. The doctors say she is doing well and the wound from her operation is healing up nicely. Dr. Mesfin told her to wear the AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) braces she has and start walking with them on. We will see her again in a month when she returns for another check-up and we're praying only good things over this young woman!
All of Ethiopia was in an internet black out for two weeks, but during that time Diso got discharged! She'll be back in a few weeks for another check up and we'll see how she's progressing then.
We found our counseling director Mesfin checking in on Diso this morning. We're obviously a hospital so physical healing takes place, but there are so many complicated emotions that accompany life change and the counseling staff stand (or sit) by our patients as they work through these emotions. Diso has been in a little pain over the weekend, but she tells us the CURE Ethiopia nurses have been great in helping her manage the pain. Please keep on praying for this young girl!
Diso's operation went well. Dr. Mesfin went in and worked on a few of the nerves in her foot in an effort to alleviate the pain. The hope is for her to walk free of pain and for this surgery to be her last. Please keep her in your prayer as she recovers.
Diso is back at CURE Ethiopia getting ready for another operation! As a welcome, she was photo bombed by our Front Desk Manager Ma! Things aren't exactly right in her left foot and it's causing her some pain so our doctors are going to sort this out.
Diso came back for a check up today and she is doing great! She is wearing the braces she picked up last time and they are helping her to walk longer and stronger! She is still staying with a nearby partner organization who is helping her with her physical therapy as well as being close by to our hospital if she needs anything else. We will see her again in six weeks when she returns for another check-up!
Diso come back for another check-up and she is doing great! Her foot is healing well and she picked up her brace. Dr. Mesfin told her she needs to wear the brace for the coming six months and he will see her again in three months to check on her progress. We will see her again when she returns for her check-up!
Diso and some of her friends came back to CURE Ethiopia for a check-up today. Diso's foot is showing progress and looks great! The wound from her operation is healing well, and she got measured for an AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) brace. She will return in six weeks for her brace fitting, and until then, she received another cast to keep her foot straight!
Diso is doing great and has been admitted back to our ward to get ready for her next clubfoot surgery! Her surgery is going to be on her left foot this time. Please keep this young woman in your prayers as she prepares!
Diso is walking well with her braces! She had been using crutches to assist her, but Dr. Mesfin told her not to use them anymore. He said she needs to walk around without them in order to develop her muscles and teach her body how to support herself. We will see her again in three months to check on the progress she is making. Keep on praying for her!
Diso got her foot braces today! We went over how to walk with them and some exercises she can be doing as she practices. She did great and she's once again on her way! We'll see her in two weeks for another check-up. Keep on praying for a speedy recovery and safe return back to us here at CURE Ethiopia.
We found Diso with some of her friends from the partner organization where she has been staying. She came back for her check up and she is doing very well! There's been a little hiccup with her AFO (the brace for her foot). She did have have the fitting like she was supposed to, but getting the brace made has been taking a little longer than we all expected. We're putting a little pressure behind her order and she's scheduled to have a fitting - aka when she tests it out - in two week's time. Slow but sure progress!
Diso came back for her check-up today, her is foot is healing well! She will have an AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) fitting at Cheshire homes and return in six weeks to see Dr. Tim where we will see the progress she is making then. Please keep her in your prayers for a safe return back to the hospital!
Diso went back to the Cheshire home over the weekend and will continue her recovery from there. We will see her again in a couple of weeks for another check-up, please keep her in your prayers for a speedy recovery and safe return back to the hospital!
