About Blessing
Though Blessing quickly learned how to walk, she developed bowed legs when she was about a year old. Her mother explained that even with her condition, Blessing lives actively and loves climbing over everything. During our conversation, Blessing sat in her mother’s lap, somewhat dumbstruck. When asked to smile for a picture, Blessing merely displayed more of her tiny teeth, as if she were at the dentist.
Blessing’s twin sister wasn’t at the clinic, but her mother said that she is just about the same as her sister, though maybe less active. Though the two of them enjoy playing together, the mother worries that one day Blessing won’t be able to keep up. Because Blessing is only 2, she doesn’t complain about her condition yet. As she gets older her bowed legs will worsen and make her life more difficult.
She was scheduled to come to Beit CURE on October 10 to get an osteotomy the next day. We’re looking forward to getting to know her and her mother better. Pray that they will be able to come safely to the hospital, and that the whole process will be stress-free and hopeful for everyone involved. Maybe we will get to see her real smile.

Tuesday February 12, 2013 - Day 114It's too bad that Blessing didn't come for her appointment today, but as I've learned, Zambians like to do things on their own time!

It will take some physiotherapy sessions to get back to walking, but in January we will see how far she's come. It's fantastic to see the difference!

Day 7Here is Blessing's surgery collage. Usually they perform osteotomies one at a time, but because Blessing lives so far away, Dr Lastroni decided to do both at once. They cut out the necessary chunks of bone and put her legs in casts. Her mobility will be limited for a while, but it will all be worth it in the end. Thanks for all the kind support. http://bit.ly/RKRy1P
Monday October 15, 2012- Day 7Blessing's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 11/19/2012 - Blessing was discharged from our hospital on October 13 with an appointment to come back in 6 weeks. I know she and her mother are relieved!
Monday October 15, 2012 - Day 3Blessing is in recovery at CURE Zambia - Blessing had both legs operated on today and everything went as planned. She's resting in the ward, and I know her mother is relieved to have Blessing back by her side.
