About Anthony
As a CUREkids Coordinator, it takes time to get to know a patient and their family. In my experience, the more they see me, the more they open up. So it was unfortunate that I was under a time constraint while on a mobile clinic in Kitwe, Zambia. I felt like I was speed dating, siting down with one person after the other, asking the same questions and scrambling to remember the answers. I wanted to get more unique answers, so I tried asking Anthony’s mother Yvonne how she would describe her son in three phrases. She said, “He has dark skin, white eyes, and...he’s from Zambia.” So there you have it.
Though Anthony was born with bilateral (in both feet) clubfoot, it doesn’t prevent him from doing anything other boys do, including soccer. Anthony is popular with his friends, and he doesn’t yet face any stigma about his condition. When I asked Yvonne what she thought when she first learned about Anthony’s clubfoot, she told me that she didn’t have much to say. She merely hoped that he would one day be able to walk well. Anthony walks, but as he gets older his clubfoot will become more of a complication. The earlier it is treated, the better.
Anthony should be coming to Beit CURE on October 3 to be admitted for surgery. Though Anthony was afraid of my unfamiliar face, I hope the next time he sees me he will smile with recognition.

Friday February 15, 2013 - Day 140This afternoon we managed to get a hold of Anthony's family. His mother thinks that he is doing so well that there is no need for him to come back to Beit CURE. We're very glad for him and hope he continues to grow up happy and healthy!
Friday February 15, 2013 - Day 139Unfortunately Anthony did not come for check-up yesterday like we were told. Hopefully they will try and make a visit this month.
Thursday February 14, 2013 - Day 124Since Anthony missed his last appointment, we gave his family a call yesterday to see when he will come back for another check-up. Sounds like we can expect to see him on February 13!

Monday December 3, 2012 - Day 63Today I caught Anthony playing and singing with his mom – unfortunately he stops whenever I'm around. Looks like he'll be discharged on Monday and come for review just before Christmas!
Friday November 30, 2012 - Day 62Thankfully Anthony was able to sleep for most of the afternoon once his surgery was finished. We hope this is the last time Anthony will ever need to go to the OR for clubfoot!
Thursday November 29, 2012 - Day 61It's been decided that Anthony will go back int the OR tomorrow. We're excited for this little guy to be done with surgeries!
Wednesday November 28, 2012 - Day 61Though Anthony was supposed to go into surgery yesterday, it was cancelled because the operating room was over-scheduled. Anthony hasn't been given a new operation date yet, so for now he and his mom are hanging out in the ward.
Wednesday November 28, 2012 - Day 60After Anthony came back for his follow-up appointment yesterday, it was decided that he was ready to go back into the operating room. Today he will have his right foot manipulated and casted, and his left foot will have surgery.

Monday October 22, 2012- Day 20Anthony's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 10/22/2012 - Anthony and his mother were sent from our hospital on October 15 to stay in Cheshire once again. He will be back on October 22 to change his cast. I'm glad there's so many of you pulling support for this kid! Thank you all.

Monday October 8, 2012 - Day 5Anthony's treatment date has been changed to 10/09/2012 - Anthony's here! I'm happy to say he was in a good mood when he saw me. Since the ward is currently so full, he and his mother are staying in a nearby town called Cheshire until he gets surgery on Tuesday. I'm glad they arrived safely to the hospital.
