Faith lives in Kenya and has a leg deformity, and in Kenya the sort of specialty medical care Faith needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Faith who have little hope for the future.

Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Faith grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Faith has a curable disability! But you can change Faith's life forever.

About Faith

Mwendwa is a name from a local Kenyan tribe meaning “the beloved one” or “the one I love.” And truth be told, Faith epitomizes that name. When she came to our mobile clinic, not only her mother, but also her aunt and two of her cousins accompanied her, a clear indication of how dear she was to them all. As I talked to her mother and aunt, Faith and her cousin Kendi were busy being typical girls, just running around the room, arguing one minute then hugging and giggling the next.

When her mother Albina brought her to our clinic for a consultation, her concern was that her daughter had a discrepancy between the lengths of her legs. True that was something to be worried about, but what actually seemed to get our doctors’ attention more was a swelling that little Faith has on her left leg. Because of that, Faith will be going through a biopsy, a procedure to investigate what’s causing the swelling. So one step at a time, and after dealing with the swelling, then our doctors will make a plan of action to deal with lengthening her leg.

Apparently the leg condition seems to be a common occurrence in their family. “She has an aunt who also had the same condition and has two paternal cousins who also seem to have a problem with their legs,” Albina told me, adding, “At least her aunt got treatment and is now rather comfortable, but her cousins are yet to receive any medical intervention.” I thank God for bringing beloved Faith our way, and I want to believe that she will be a link to the rest of her cousins who suffer from the same disability. So not only do I look forward to having her treated, but also her cousins if that’s what God has planned. But regardless of what happens, we’re blessed by the opportunity to walk through this process with Faith and to celebrate with her after each step of her healing.

  1. Day 44 Faith's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 11/21/2012 - We thank God that the biopsy results showed that Faith and her mother have nothing to be worried about :) Dr. Kinyua gave her a six month break from hospital then they can decide the way forward in the length discrepancy she has on her legs. For now she is under observation.
