About Ceciliah
Ceciliah is only 6 years old, and, with all the medical complications that she has, it is interesting to note how strong willed she is. She knows what she wants, when she wants it, and how she wants it. This was very evident in my short time with them. She continuously told her mother to abandon our little interview so that she could go home and sleep. She was tired of being in a hospital.
She was born with cerebral palsy, bilateral clubfeet, and a fractured hip amongst other complications. Violet, her mother, was so shocked and still has not gotten through it. As a result, she hides her daughter at home unless she is taking her to the hospital. Their trips to the hospital have been many, and were it not for the encouragement of her sister in law, Violet would have given up a long time ago.
The third born of four children, Ceciliah is fortunate to have elder siblings who are very protective and understanding of her. But the younger child is harmful to her. He is two and a half and too young to understand what is going on with his sister. Violet would like to find a job, but currently cannot, as she has to stay home and take care of her daughter. So for this family, Ceciliah’s operation benefits more than one person. Ceciliah will get on her feet for the first time in her life, and Violet will get back on her feet in the working world.

JSON RSS- Day 176 Thank you all for your kind and generous words for Ceciliah's family. We're honored to deliver those messages. This week, we talked to the larger community of CURE about this. If you're interested, read here: http://cure.org/blog/2012/02/mourn-with-those-who-mourn/
Thursday February 9, 2012 - Day 174 A video from CURE Kenya Medical Director, Joseph Theuri, regarding the illness that took Ceciliah's life http://vimeo.com/36305017
Tuesday February 7, 2012 - Day 169 We have some extremely sad news to share. After conducting our normal followup to determine if Ceciliah's family would make her next appointment, we learned that Ceciliah passed away in her home village 2 weeks ago from a condition she recently contracted - cerebral malaria (malaria and spinal meningitis). Obviously, this news came as a shock, and we wanted to find a respectful and loving way to share it with you and to allow this community that has supported Ceciliah to reflect God's love to her family in this time of grieving. Ceciliah's family is grieving her loss, and we want to ask you - the community who have followed her story, prayed for her, and supported her - to share any words of comfort or condelence you might have with Ceciliah's family - just as you would if the neighbor across the street lost a loved one. If you have a message or a prayer to share with Ceciliah's parents, please send your message to our CUREkids Coordinator in Kenya directly via email at: jenny@cure.org, and we will get your condolences to Ceciliah's parents very soon. If you have further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email us at info@cure.org and someone will get back to you right away. Tomorrow, we'll share a video from CURE Kenya Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Theuri, explaining malaria and spinal meningitis further. We'll also be talking about this with the larger CURE community on the CURE blog. Thank you for being a support to Ceciliah and her family throughout the last 6 months, and we ask that you keep her family in prayer as they grieve. Very sincerely, joel worrall (joel@cure.org)
