About Dereje
Dereje stopped going to school because the other kids were pushing him down and saying mean things to him. He hopes to go back after he recovers from clubfoot surgery at CURE.
Dereje's parents are farmers, and he has 2 sisters. Dereje is the youngest. I thought he must be when I saw how shy he was. He wouldn't speak, and he kept hiding behind me when we were talking. The one thing that surprised me is that he would maintain eye contact and smile. He doesn't have to talk for you to see how sweet this kid is.
He has had two clubfeet since birth. He will need a surgery for each foot. He is on the verge of needing to get one foot operated on a time. The recovery time takes longer for older kids so they normally won't do them at the same time unless the child is very small. We'll see what the doctors decide when the time comes. Until then, please keep Dereje and his family in your prayers as he prepares to get a life changing procedure.

JSON RSS- Day 142Dereje's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 02/12/2013 - Dereje is doing great. He was at CURE for a follow-up yesterday, but he still wasn't walking yet. He'll continue to heal at home and learn to walk on those two straight feet. He has a 6 month follow-up appointment scheduled now.

Friday June 29, 2012- Day 80Dereje is in recovery at CURE Ethiopia - Dereje is already in recovery. He had a sneaky surgery yesterday. The date was changed last minute, but he is doing well now; smiling that big smile already. Thank you for your ongoing support of this cute kiddo!
