Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Surgery Sponsorship Program?

It’s a way to connect your gift directly to a child receiving surgery at a CURE hospital. You’ll see the impact of your generosity through a personal update after their procedure.

How does it work?

When you give at a sponsorship level, we match your gift to a child whose surgery reflects your amount and timing. After their surgery is complete, you’ll receive a personalized update — typically within 6 to 8 weeks.

How much does it cost to sponsor a surgery?

Sponsorship levels are based on network-wide averages:

  • $1,000 – Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (e.g., cleft lip and palate)
  • $1,500 – Orthopedic surgery (e.g., clubfoot, bowed legs)
  • $2,000 – Pediatric neurosurgery (e.g., hydrocephalus)
What does my donation cover?

Your gift helps fund everything needed for surgery: medical care, anesthesia, supplies, hospital stay, rehabilitation, and spiritual care. All care is provided at no cost to families.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. CURE International is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Is this a recurring sponsorship?

No, each sponsorship is a one-time gift supporting one child. You’re welcome to give again and be matched with another child in the future.

Will I know the exact child I helped?

Yes. We match each sponsorship to a real child. While we protect their privacy by sharing only first names and limited details, the story you receive is personal and true.

What will I receive?

You’ll get a PDF profile that includes:

  • The child’s first name and condition
  • Surgery type and hospital location
  • 1–3 photos from their journey
  • A short narrative or caregiver quote
  • Occasionally, a link to a follow-up video or story
What if a child needs more than one surgery?

About 30% of CURE patients require multiple surgeries. Each procedure is matched with one sponsorship. If you give again, you may help the same child or another in need.

Can I correspond with the child or their family?

Direct communication isn’t possible, but your profile may include a caregiver message. You’re also welcome to send a note of encouragement through our Donor Care Team.

Can I sponsor more than one child?

Absolutely. Many donors choose to sponsor multiple surgeries through one-time or ongoing gifts. Our Donor Care Team can help with larger or custom sponsorships.

Can I give in honor or memory of someone?

Yes. Just let us know during checkout or contact us after giving, and we can provide a custom acknowledgment for you to share.

What if my employer matches donations?

CURE qualifies for most matching gift programs. Your employer may double or triple your impact. Check with your HR department or contact us for assistance.

When will I receive the child’s profile?

You’ll receive it within 6 to 8 weeks. This allows time for the surgery and for our team to gather photos, details, and a meaningful story.

What if a surgery is delayed?

Sometimes surgeries are rescheduled due to medical or logistical needs. If that happens, we’ll still match your gift as soon as possible and keep you informed.

Why is this a pilot program?

This is a new, more personal way to engage our donors. Your participation helps us refine and grow the program for even greater impact in the future.

What happens after the pilot ends?

We hope to continue and expand the program. We’ll keep you informed about future opportunities to sponsor more children.
