What am I giving to?

CURE in Zambia

The picture above is of CURE in Zambia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Zambia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Misheck. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Misheck. When you give a gift through Misheck's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Zambia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Misheck. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Misheck's Story

“He can't really wear shoes because when he does, it just makes his legs hurt even more," Dennis, Misheck's father, tells us.

Misheck’s knock knees weren't really visible when he was a baby, but when he started walking, his parents noticed something was not right. He was still able to walk and even run a little so his parents hoped his legs would straighten as he continued to grow. Sadly, this was not the case and Misheck's legs just continued to get worse. Misheck is now 10 years old and his knees have progressed to the point where his knees bump into each other as he walks, making the act awkward and painful. When he plays with friends, he struggles to keep up as the angle of his legs causes stress on his ankles and the pain quickly becomes unbearable.

Misheck was first taken to a hospital when he was just three years old, however that hospital just kept rescheduling appointments and never giving Misheck and his family any help or information. Thankfully a CURE Zambia partner organization met Misheck and was able to tell him about the work we do here. Now that Misheck is here with us, we will straighten his legs and send him home standing tall, able to wear shoes and keep up with his friends!

Mischeck has been discharged! He has recovered well from his surgery and is now on his way home. He has casts on both his legs and they'll have to stay there for a couple weeks which does indeed make getting around awkward. The benefit of doing both legs at once instead of one at a time is it dramatically shortens his time to complete healing! Pray for the safe travel back home and for his healing! Photo of Misheck

We keep on making progress with Misheck's healing journey! He has had his surgery on his left leg today meaning both legs have now been surgically straightened! Just like in his last surgery, he now has a long leg cast meaning he has casts on both legs. He'll be a little immobile for the next few weeks, but it's all part of the plan. Please pray for Mischeck as he recovers from surgery! Photo of Misheck

Regardless of the department, our CURE Zambia coworkers are friendly and love the kids! This helps with the emotional and spiritual healing of the kids because they get to feel the love and care from everyone in our hospital. In the photo, Tobias from our maintenance department was interacting and having a good time with Misheck and his friend John as they lounged in the sun! Photo of Misheck

This is the third puzzle Mischeck has completed today! He is a very bright young man and what is exciting is that, through our CURE Zambia spiritual staff, Dennis has realized the importance of sending Mischeck to school. He's promised to search for a school for Misheck once Misheck is done with his healing and they have returned home! Medically, Misheck is feeling well post-op and we are glad to see him moving around the hospital in a wheelchair! Photo of Misheck

Misheck is recovering from yesterday's surgery! His surgery was big and it will take some time for this young man to adjust to it. Thankfully our nursing and medical staff are on hand to walk through the process with him. They're making it as easy as possible during the post-operative recovery process! Please may you be praying for Misheck's comfort! Photo of Misheck

As scheduled, Misheck has had his first surgery on his right leg today! Dr. Moyo and Dr. Mutinta straightened Misheck's right leg and then installed a few wires to help all the bones stay in the correct place as Misheck heals. The surgery ended with Misheck getting a long leg cast which he'll have for the next few weeks. Praise the Lord with us for this big step forward! Photo of Misheck

All this to say, Misheck is having. pretty great time here at CURE Zambia. He's been scheduled for surgery tomorrow so please be praying for him as the real work is about to start! Photo of Misheck

Misheck has a condition known as knock knees, but not for much longer! He has come to CURE Zambia with his father Dennis. During the admission process, we discovered Misheck is not in school and everyone has encouraged Dennis to enroll Misheck in school after he gets healed. Misheck will soon have surgery to correct his knocked knees and one major hurdle to getting to school will have been removed from his life! Photo of Misheck
