“They showed me her feet after she was born and I got scared, because it was my first time seeing bent feet” says Iness, Chileleko's mother. Chileleko is a twin and her twin sister is often blamed for her clubfoot. The people in their community believe that Chileleko's twin sat on Chileleko's feet in the womb and that's why they became bent. What has been more tragic for Iness is that as she was still battling with Chileleko’s healing, Chileleko’s younger sister was also born with clubfoot. The thought of going through all the emotional and physical struggles all over again was devastating
Chileleko is now three years old and she manages to walk, but she has difficulties standing and balancing because of her feet. Thankfully, a local hospital noticed Chileleko and referred her here to us at CURE Zambia. This has been a double blessing for Iness since both her children can receive treatment, side by side!
Chileleko has gotten herself discharged! She and her little family were taken to the bus stop by our driver Chilekwa where they caught a bus going to their home. She will have a follow up at a local hospital next month rather than coming all the way back to us at CURE Zambia. We're praying for a good report!
Chileleko's treatment trajectory looks very good and her clubfoot will soon be a thing a of the past! She liked the gown all the children wear into the OR so much that she was putting it on this morning and wanted a photo when she saw us! She is heading back to the OR today for a simple cast change. Please continue praying for Chileleko's healing!
If you thought casts on both legs were holding Chileleko back, you are wrong! She likes crawling around the children's ward. We caught up with her when she was leaving our playroom. In her hands she was holding some crayons and painting papers and she fully intended to continue painting from her bed!
We spotted this beautiful girl playing in the playroom! She has warned up to our environment and she is even making friends. Medically, Chileleko is scheduled to have a dressing change next week. She is making progress with her recovery and please remember to be praying for her healing!
Chileleko is recovering very well from her surgery! We saw her moving around a bit, trying to escape from her bed where she's been stuck recovering all day. By tomorrow, we anticipate she will up and about and might even get to our playroom! Be praying for this sweet girl!
Chileleko had surgery on both her feet and she is recovering in the ward! The doctors were able to successfully straighten her feet although she will need a few cast changes and manipulations as she recovers. Kindly remember to be praying for a smooth and speedy healing for her!
Meet this beautiful family! Chileleko, her mother Iness, and her younger sister. Chileleko has clubfoot and will be receiving treatment here at CURE Zambia. Please be praying for Chileleko as she begins treatment!
