“The child was born well. At one year and three months the child was already walking but regressed and is unable to walk now only able to crawl,” said Jane. Brenda was born with a Dandy Walker malformation which has caused her milestone delays and hydrocephalus. She is currently suffering from headaches due to the increased pressure in her head. Brenda and her family live in a refugee camp in Northern Uganda. They fled from South Sudan in 2016, and since being at the camp Brenda has been examined by doctors who referred her to Arua Hospital which sent them to CURE. Jane has been pleased with the treatment they received, ”When I came they attended to me they told us there is water in the brain and that they will make a way for the water to pass,” said Jane. Brenda is currently in pre school and might go to first grade next year, “The child is bright, if God can help heal, it will be upon the child to decide her future,” said Jane. Jane is a Christian and has been praying for Brenda and her family, “I am praying for the child to be well,” said Jane. Please join Jane in praying for Brenda's healing!
Brenda got to hold baby Victoria this morning! Her little sister is so sweet and cuddly! She and her family are ready to go home, so the CURE social workers have been working hard to figure out the best way for them to travel back to the refugee camp where they live - it's been a bit complicated! We are going to miss this wonderful family, but are praying that they will have safe travels, and that Brenda would be able to get the follow-up care she needs for her leg.
Brenda got to hang out with some new friends this morning! Jackie, Angie, Nicole and Maria (along with Bruce and Kevin) are visiting us from Colorado Springs and have brought a lot of love and laughter along with them! Physical therapist Issac determined that since Brenda's been having some muscle weakness in her right leg, a cast will help keep her foot in the right position for now, until she can get more orthopedic care from another hospital that specializes in that. We're praying that she can get the follow-up care that she needs for her leg, so she can continue being able to walk. Thank you so much for praying for her and her family!
We've been so honored to have Brenda and her family here at CURE Uganda for a few days, and Brenda has charmed everyone at the hospital! She definitely has a big personality! Today she was with mama Jane and baby sister Victoria outside of the patient hospital, waiting for the doctors to make their morning rounds. The CT scan showed that the fluid in her brain is working well, so that's great news! She is still struggling with weakness in her right leg, so physiotherapist Issac gave her mama some exercises they can work on. They are hoping to start the long journey back to the refugee camp where they live today - would you join us in praying for a safe trip for them?
Brenda did some coloring over the weekend and was excited to show us her work this morning! She and mama Jane, along with new baby sister Victoria, stayed in the patient hostel over the weekend, and she enjoyed clapping along to worship in chapel this morning. Today the doctors will continue figuring out the puzzle of what's been causing her headaches, so we'll keep you posted! Thank you for praying for her and her family!
Brenda is back at CURE Uganda! Her sweet personality was on full display as she made faces for the camera - and had fun pressing the camera buttons, too! She's been struggling with headaches recently, as well as having some pain in her right leg, so her mom, along with a few other South Sudanese patients, came back to CURE so she could get checked out. Clinical officer Esther met with Brenda and her mom and sent her for a CT scan so the doctors can figure out what's causing these headaches. Brenda and her family are refugees from South Sudan and live in a big refugee camp in Uganda. We're honored to have them back at CURE, and thank you for praying for them!
Brenda is going home today Jane and her are very happy about the news. This morning Dr. Peter told them they could go home, and he also complimented Brenda on her nails which put a smile on her face. Prior to leaving, Jane and Brenda received a get well message which also put a smile on their faces. Brenda will return to school soon, and Jane thinks she will begin first grade next year. Please keep Brenda in your prayers that she will recover well from her operation and do well in school.
Brenda and Jane spent the morning in the playroom. Jane painted Brenda’s nails while she played with some of the toys. Brenda might go home tomorrow, her doctors wanted her to meet with physical therapist first, but they were not working today. Brenda was in a wheelchair earlier while her mother washed clothes and they socialized, and now she is playing. They both seem to be happy and optimistic about going home soon. Please keep Brenda in your prayers, that she will recover well from her operation.
“Please pray for the child, that God may help her recover,” said Jane. “What I have observed yesterday when they came back, I saw the the water is moving," said Jane. Brenda had a good night and is recovering well this morning. She got a writing lesson from Dr. Noah before she was moved out of the ICU. Later in the day, they went to the Spiritual Center playroom and plan on attending the afternoon chapel time. “There is a way I feel relaxed and joy after prayers,” said Jane.
Brenda went in to surgery today and Dr. Musa and Dr. Mugamba performed an OPM CPC/ETV. They took a pressure measurement and made a way for the water to flow through her brain. Jane is happy that Brenda received surgery so soon, she is now waiting for Brenda to be moved to the ICU where they will be reunited. Please keep Brenda in your prayers that she will recover well from her operation!
