“When I grow up, I want to become a teacher. I get to practice my teaching skills on my kuya (big brother) when I teach him Math,” says Jhezzel.

Jhezzel’s big brother Jheremel is her best friend. She spends most of her time at home watching TV and playing the tablet with him when she doesn’t play the role of the teacher. She’s sweet and charming and also very respectful to her elders. She adds “po” at the end of her sentences––a sign of respect in a Filipino culture.

”We’ve been asking for many opinions on what to do with my daughter’s situation. She’s had five fractures in her lifetime. We finally found a local doctor who can treat her, but it would cost us around $3000 to have surgery. By the time we get that money, we won’t be able to find the means to eat. Thankfully, we were referred to Tebow CURE,” shares Jhezzel’s dad Ramon, who does his best to provide for his family.

“On our first visit at Tebow CURE, Jhezzel was recommended to drink calcium supplements, so she’s strong enough to have surgery––a rod will put her bones back together through surgery. She’s able to stand but she can’t really go anywhere from there,” adds Jhezzel's mom Melissa.

Jhezzel is diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta, which is a genetic bone disorder, also known as the brittle bone disease. There is no way to reverse the diagnosis but Tebow CURE can help make her brittle bones stronger by putting them together with strong rods.

“I’d like to be able to walk someday,” is one of Jhezzel's biggest hopes in life. Through surgery, we can provide a way to fulfill Jhezzel’s dream! Thank you for giving the means for Jhezzel’s life changing surgery and we ask that you pray for her as she starts her journey of physical and spiritual healing!

Jhezzel was smiley as ever today, we wouldn’t have guessed that she was in any pain. She’s been having some discomfort, and the culprit in the hardware in her leg, which has “shifted”, causing her bones to be slightly misaligned. There’s no clear answer as to why this happens, but she’ll be back in June for surgery, where we’ll replace it and make sure everything is lined up again. Then, she can focus once again on healing! Jhezzel's sweet and charming character brightened up our morning as she patiently waited for her turn in clinic. Dr. Ray Ray sent her to X-ray which showed that her bones healed well. When able to, Jhezzel was cleared to stand with full weight. We will keep an eye of her as she heals and ask that you continue to pray for Jhezzel's bones to become stronger! Photo of Jhezzel

She's all packed and ready to go! Jhezzel brushed her hair and smiled at the camera. Even though they planned to leave early for their 7-hour trip, Ramon, Melissa, and Jhezzel hung out in the ward until the mall next door opened. They wanted to buy an extra pillow so Jhezzel's legs could be propped up during their travel. Her healing journey will continue at home, please pray with us that even though we are far away, God hears her desire to have stronger bones every day! Photo of Jhezzel

More smiles from this beauty! Jhezzel spent a ton of time coloring in the playroom today. After a while, she was ready to go back and crawl back into bed, telling us that her legs hurt. We were impressed at how long she managed to be out and about! Also, a fun fact! We found out Jhezzel’s secret for her perfect, silky smooth hair. Ramon is a hairdresser, and he does all of her haircare! She's getting the royal treatment all around! Photo of Jhezzel

“It feels like I’ve been in surgery all day!” sighed an exhausted Dr. Shelley at the end of Jhezzel’s surgery. Her surgery wrapped up around 1 pm, but it was a long, intense procedure. The entire staff was tired, but it was all worth it when we saw Jhezzel wake up with a smile, believe it or not! Meanwhile, Melissa and Ramon waited and worshipped upstairs with the Spiritual Ministry team, and expressed their gratitude for God’s timing. They were told by others that this would be the perfect age for Jhezzel’s surgery, but didn’t think they could afford it, and then found Tebow CURE Hospital! So indeed, the entire family is being impacted, physically and spiritually! Photo of Jhezzel

It's a dark, stormy afternoon here in Davao, and we weren't sure if Jhezzel and her parents would make it to the hospital! We're happy to report that they did, and we didn't waste any time getting to know her, before she was even admitted. Despite the unfamiliar surroundings and long journey today, Jhezzel was friendly right off the bat. She's excited for surgery tomorrow, and excited at the thought of being able to walk soon! Please keep her in your prayers, tomorrow's a big day for Jhezzel and her family! Photo of Jhezzel
