“The three of us share a strong bond, because of our condition,” said the young girl, Safaatou.
Having osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as “brittle bones”, means that Safaatou’s bones can break or fracture easily. She is not the only one in the family, having this condition. Two of her sisters, are sharing the same story.
“We all know exactly what the other person is going through. We comfort and support each other,” said Safaatou. A few months after her birth, she already had some fractured bones. The only treatment she ever received for her condition, was some traditional cream. Nothing else! Years passed by, the bones curled, making it harder for her to walk. Her mother died two years ago. Safaatou’s father married a new wife, and started a new life. Safaatou, and all her siblings were taken to their grandma’s house.
“I do not let them go out, because they will break their bones, and I am the one who suffers most,” articulated Safaatou’s grandma. She struggles to make their ends meet. Safaatou braids hair. Some of the locals are her clients. With the money she gets, Safaatou pays for the clothing for the entire family. Her grandma thought of sending them to a school, where they could learn handcrafting. While still planning, someone from CBM organization, told her about CURE Children's Hospital of Niger.
Now, Safaatou and her two little sisters are here, with us! With your support, they will receive the surgeries they need to straighten their legs! And not only that! We will shower them with the love of Christ, pray for them, and help them to write a new chapter in their lives. One of hope, joy and full of possibilities! Please, join us in the greater story He is writing!
