CURE in Malawi

The picture above is of CURE in Malawi. Everyone who serves with CURE in Malawi, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Salanje. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Salanje. When you give a gift through Salanje's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Malawi. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Salanje. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Salanje's Story

"Even though he loves soccer so much, I am so scared that his leg might get worse. Many times, I told him do not to go out of my sight," Aliyasiya, Salanje's grandmother.

Salanje lives with his grandmother and has an older sister and a brother. He was the only one in the family born with a bone condition that caused his leg to break and form improperly. "There is nothing more I want than to see my grandson having a better leg. A better leg means better playing, better education, and better life," said Aliyasiya. When Salanje was taken to a local hospital, he had his leg put into a cast a few times, but there was very little improvement. A few months later, Salanje seemed to have more pain and difficulty walking. His grandmother began to seek help and brought Salanje to a CURE Malawi clinic in their village. At the clinic, Salanje was booked for surgery at the CURE Children's Hospital of Malawi.

Salanje, who was supposed to start school, fails to attend due to pain and the inability to walk. We look forward to treating him, watch him walk without pain, and attend school in the near future! Please join us in welcoming Salanje to CURE Malawi!

As we join the medical and spiritual team on ward rounds, we heard Salanje being told that he will be here for a few more days. This will allow the nurses to care for his frame. Please keep Salanje in your prayers for continued healing and peace in the waiting. Photo of Salanje

It has been so cold here in Malawi, and we spotted Salanje and his mother in the sun-basking. Not only were they warming themselves up, but Aliyasiya was trimming Salanje's nails. Salanje is getting much better and healing well. Our nurses and physical therapy team are teaching Aliyasiya how to look after the frame when they are home. Please keep them in your prayers. "I love the doll, but I like the speaking radio more," said Salanje when he received the audio Bible from the Spiritual team. This week has been an extraordinary week for our kids in the hospital. Each kid got a doll and an audio Bible. This brought so much joy and excitement to the ward! As Salanje is healing up, please keep him in your prayers! Photo of Salanje

Good afternoon from Salanje's mother, Aliyasiya! We spotted them chatting and laughing, and we wanted to be part of the joy they are sharing. Salanje said they were talking about how they cannot wait to see him running and kicking the ball! As this boy is recovering with the frame on his leg, please keep him in your prayers for speedy healing! He is already dreaming out it! Photo of Salanje

Salanje was scheduled to have surgery, but during his pre-surgery check up, it was discovered that his blood count is low. For that reason, our doctors sent him home with some iron tablets. These should help elevate his blood count and Salanje will come back in May to receive his surgery! Please continue to pray that his blood count will rise and it will be possible for our CURE surgeons to operate on him! Photo of Salanje
