We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Stephen. When you give a gift through Stephen's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. “I was shocked and I cried a lot when I first saw my new born child!” Tabitha, Stephen’s mum, told us.

Tabitha remembers vividly exactly how she felt when she first met her new born child. It was a mixture of feelings but no sooner had she embraced her son than she started crying because she saw that he was not normal. Tabitha had never seen anyone else with cleft lip or cleft palate. The nurses who helped her deliver were kind enough to help her calm down and they explained to her that her child could be treated.

Stephen’s mum was given mobile clinic dates and she made her way there. They were then scheduled to come to CURE Kenya so that Stephen could go through surgery. We asked Tabitha what she looked forward to the most and this is what she had to say. “I feel good because I have seen doctors and they have reassured me that my child is going to be treated.”

Stephen was all dressed up and ready to go home by the time we saw him. Please thank God with us for the time that Stephen has been here, and continue to pray for his full recovery. Photo of Stephen

“Does he look different?” We asked Stephen’s mom. “Yes, he looks very different!” She told us. We got the feeling that she is still surprised at how good the surgery turned out, and she didn’t have much to say at that moment. But her big smile while looking at her son says a lot! Stephen is recovering well and may be released to go home tomorrow. Photo of Stephen

Finally, the day is here when Stephen gets his smile restored. Very early in the morning, Dr. Theuri was able to scrub in and do Stephen’s surgery. We thank God that it was successful! After Stephen is completely healed, he’ll have a super transformed smile. Photo of Stephen

The saying, ‘A hungry man is an angry man’ is very true. When we saw Stephen this morning, he wasn’t very happy. He wasn’t allowed to eat because the nurses were hoping his surgery could be done today. Stephen has to wait a while for that to happen, but we are praying for him and his mom. We played a little, held Stephen some, and made him smile for a second. Please keep him in your prayers. Photo of Stephen
