What am I giving to?

CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Mwanzia. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Mwanzia. When you give a gift through Mwanzia's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Mwanzia. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“I was playing in the house when I got burned by hot water. I don’t remember everything because it happened so fast.” Mwanzia told us.

Mwanzia is a 12 year old girl who had an unlucky accident in her house six years ago. She was running into the house, trying to hide from her friends as they were playing hide and seek, when she ran into a pot of boiling water. It fell on her hands as she landed, causing serious burns.

Mwanzia lives with Esther, her grandmother, as her mother tries to make ends meet for them in the city. Esther was the first responder when Mwanzia had her accident. She rushed her granddaughter to nearest hospital for treatment. A few months later, Mwanzia's burns did indeed close up, but the melted skin healed in odd ways, making it hard for her to use her hands.

Mwanzia and Esther are now at CURE Kenya thanks to a lady in their hometown who is a CURE partner and helps us identify children who are needlessly living with treatable disabilities. Esther is hopeful that her granddaughter will attain some level of comfort after the surgery and that she’ll be able to use both her hands to their full potential!

Mwanzia’s procedure involves releasing her burn contractures to allow her to move her left hand a bit more and even use it to work, write, and play with her friends.
Please pray for Mwanzia and her grandma and pray for healing!

Look at that smile! Mwanzia is out of pain and is feeling very good. Today we found her out of bed, having breakfast and she was in the happiest of moods. We asked her grandma if she knew when they would be going home and she told us that they didn’t know yet. It was good to see Mwanzia in such great spirits and we thank God for her smile. Mwanzia might need a wound check and bandage change before they can go home. Photo of Mwanzia

We caught up with a happy Mwanzia and her grandma in the ward as they had a small balloon game. Her pain has drastically dropped and today she was even able to get out of bed! Mwanzia is a strong girl and loves her grandma very much. Let's continue supporting Mwanzia and Esther during their recovery! Photo of Mwanzia

Children who go through burn contracture releases are usually required to have their hands elevated to keep swelling down and reduce pain. Problem is, it's kind of uncomfortable and they end up asking their guardians to help them put their hands down. For Mwanzia, she understands the need to have her hand elevated and will rather go through the discomfort than the pain of if it would swell. Her grandma is really encouraging her to stay strong and soon it will pay off! Please keep praying for Mwanzia’s recovery. Photo of Mwanzia

Today Mwanzia was in some pain after surgery but Naomi, a nurse at CURE Kenya, was ready and willing to assist her. Mwanzia got some pain killers and we are glad that she is feeling much better. We are praying for Mwanzia’s healing, that she will be able to rise above the pain and be healed. You can cheer her up through a get well message and we will be sure to deliver all your messages to her! Photo of Mwanzia

Mwanzia loves her grandma so much! She has technically grown up under her grandmother's care and they have such a sweet bond. Grandmother takes care of Mwanzia and Mwanzia helps grandmother remember things like their phone number! We are happy to meet these two and we pray for Mwanzia's surgery. Photo of Mwanzia
