CURE in Ethiopia

The picture above is of CURE in Ethiopia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Ethiopia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Dereb. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Dereb. When you give a gift through Dereb's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Ethiopia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Dereb. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

"I want to be a doctor so that I could help other children who has a problem like mine," Dereb shared with us.

Dereb and his father Hailu have come to CURE Ethiopia seeking help for Dereb's burn contracture. When he was six years old, hot water spilled on him and burned the skin on the right side of his neck. He did not receive any medical treatment at the time so when his skin healed, his neck was left with a contracture. "I have been to a lot of hospitals and cities but none of them could help us," says Haile, Dereb's father and he continued, "I finally asked to send me to the capital and the hospital I went to in Addis Ababa told me about CURE." Dereb is the sixth child for his parents and he has three brothers and three sisters. He comes from a family of farmers and they are thankful to have a place that would help treat Dereb. "I love playing soccer with my friends, but some of the children in my school make fun of me and say mean things too," Dereb told us. Dereb is a fourth grader and loves school so much, we're excited to make going to school a little easier so that he can concentrate on his studies and being a good friend. Join us in welcoming Dereb while he starts his healing journey!

Dereb came back for his check-up today and everything looks great! Dr. Tesfaye told him this is the last follow up he'll need for a few months so he does not need to stay in the Mother Teresa house and he can go back home and see all of his family! We will see him again in the beginning of September for another check-up. Photo of Dereb
