Celebrating 10,000 Surgical Procedures in the Philippines

Since opening our doors in 2014, Tebow CURE Children’s Hospital of the Philippines (Tebow CURE Philippines) has been a great source of hope for the more than 1.6 million children living with disabilities in the country.

In May 2024, the hospital reached a significant milestone: 10,000 surgical procedures performed since inception! A young boy with bowed legs named Tomoki was the recipient of the hospital’s 10,000th procedure.

We celebrate the thousands of young patients like Tomoki who are given the chance to live independent lives free from life-limiting but treatable disabilities like clubfoot, cleft lip/palate, and knock knees.

Tebow CURE staff celebrates Tomoki’s birthday and second surgery—the hospital’s 10,000th procedure since its inception.

Tebow CURE’s 10,000th Procedure: Tomoki’s Journey to Healing

Tomoki, from northern Philippines, before and after treatment.

Desperate to help her son, Tomoki, Irene found Tebow CURE Philippines online and saved up to bring him to the hospital. In April 2023, he underwent surgery on one leg, and in May 2024, he had surgery on his other leg—the 10,000th procedure in Tebow CURE’s history.

“I am very thankful to the Lord for the chance for my child to undergo life-changing surgery,” Irene shared. “I prayed for this, and I have been wishing for a long time to find a hospital that can help with my child’s case. I felt God’s love for us. I am blessed not only because of Tomoki’s healing, but especially because of how the staff cared for us.”

With support from friends like you, Tomoki is on his way to walking on two straight legs!

More than Physical Transformation

First envisioned in 2009, Tebow CURE Philippines came to fruition through the collaboration of many donors and partners, united in the goal of providing life-changing surgical care for children living with treatable disabilities at no cost to them or their families.

Steve Biondo, President of the Tim Tebow Foundation, one of the hospital’s founding partners, sees the collaboration as a powerful force for change. “At the Tim Tebow Foundation, we believe there is power when we come together. The incredible milestone of 10,000 procedures performed at Tebow CURE is a testimony to what serving together does. Alongside the world-class medical staff at CURE International, we are serving far more precious lives than if either of us acted independently.”

At Tebow CURE Philippines, our staff is trained to reflect kingdom values in our work and to share God’s love through prayer, biblical counseling, spiritual support, and bedside ministry. Each of those 10,000 procedures was an opportunity to share Jesus’s love and be the hands and feet of Christ for children in desperate need of care.

At Tebow CURE Philippines, every visit is a chance for patients to hear the gospel and experience the love of Jesus.

Steve Perry, founder of the Sacred Harvest Foundation, a founding partner organization of Tebow CURE, sees the hospital as the pinnacle of the foundation’s efforts to bring God’s Shalom (peace and wholeness) to the people of the Philippines. “To know there have been 10,000 touches where the power of Christ’s genuine love and care has been demonstrated has been our dream. . . . Ten years later, the work continues!”

Helping More Kids in Need

Like Tomoki, many of the children Tebow CURE serves come from underserved regions where access to healthcare is limited or nonexistent. Consequently, correctable disabilities and minor injuries become permanent, life-limiting conditions that result in a lifetime of physical pain, shame, and isolation.

CURE is working to change that.

The highly skilled surgeons at Tebow CURE Philippines performed 2,000+ surgeries in the last 12 months.

With three operating rooms functioning at full capacity, the hospital performs an average of 35 to 40 surgeries per week. This high volume is made possible by the dedicated efforts of the hospital’s skilled surgical teams, including four plastic and reconstructive surgeons, three orthopedic surgeons, and two general surgeons.

“I am incredibly proud of our team . . . We rely on comprehensive strategies to provide initial and ongoing world-class clinical care for the precious children who come through our doors every day, particularly our cleft and orthopedic patients,” says Peter Cowles, the hospital’s Executive Director.

After treatment at CURE, children once made vulnerable by disability can go on to live the healthy, independent lives they deserve.

CURE also strives to help more kids heal through the next generation of healthcare workers. Over the past 10 years, Tebow CURE Philippines has trained more than 1,000 health professionals, providing surgery for even more children in need.

Through the continued partnership of faithful organizations like the Tim Tebow Foundation, the Sacred Harvest Foundation, and our generous supporters, Tebow CURE Philippines continues to fulfill God’s calling to serve and heal His children, bringing hope and transformation to countless families across the country.
