The burden of trauma at a district hospital in Malawi
Abstract: Trauma disproportionately affects low- and middle-income countries, many of which do not have the surveillance systems required to design effective prevention and treatment strategies. This study aimed to establish such a system at a district hospital in Malawi in order to decrease the number of preventable injuries in the country. The most common cause was falls (53.2%), and 94.8% of patients were treated and sent home. Study recommends for preventative interventions specifically targeting this group of the population
