KSGN Radio Partners with CURE to Change Lives
What do listeners of 89.7 KSGN—a Christian radio station serving the Riverside and San Bernardino region of California—have to do with an 11-year-old boy named Abdoul in Niger?
Everything.
Last month, 89.7 KSGN donated airtime to CURE to help millions of children worldwide who desperately need surgical care. When CURE’s favorite radio personalities and advocates, Brant Hansen and Sherri Lynn, invited KSGN listeners to partner with CURE to provide life-changing surgeries to children in need, listeners responded.
In fact, nearly 400 people said “yes!” to partnering with CURE to provide free surgeries and demonstrate the love of Jesus to children.
KSGN listeners gave more than $100,000 during the two-day campaign—sponsoring 100 surgeries! Through CURE’s partnership over the past three years with KSGN, their listeners have given more than $360,000 toward providing children the surgeries they need to walk, run, smile, play, and dream.
KSGN is so committed to the work CURE does—and to seeing more children experience hope and transformation—that they donated the airtime toward this campaign to introduce more of their listeners to CURE.
Jeremy Morris, Director of Operations and Content for 89.7 KSGN, says the decision to donate their valuable airtime to CURE is simply a natural extension of their vision to be and to encourage a community of people who love God and care for each other.
“We felt the campaign to help kids heal with CURE would be a natural fit with our vision,” he said. “We’re grateful for our listeners who stepped up to heal kids . . . It’s exciting to see them connect in a cause like this and share a passion together—all because we have a common faith and share common values that transform lives.”
Generosity Ripples from California to Niger
The generosity of KSGN listeners changes everything for kids like Abdoul—our friend in Niger.
As a toddler, Abdoul had already endured enough pain for one lifetime with the loss of his mother. While living with his grandmother, he began to experience pain in his feet that eventually prevented him from walking and attending school. When Abdoul’s grandma learned that he could receive corrective surgery at no cost from CURE Niger, she felt hopeful for the first time.
She recalls, “I felt great joy in my heart, and I said, ‘Thank God because now Abdoul will be healed!’”
Abdoul received the care he needed because partners like you and KSGN’s generous listeners said “yes” to helping him.
Abdoul’s surgery to fix his knock knees was successful. During his recovery at CURE Niger, he made new friends in the playroom, learned new skills like sewing, and received a wheelchair (handy for racing!).
Beyond medical care, CURE’s ministry team prayed with Abdoul and told him about the love of Jesus. He took what he learned back to his village, and now all his friends know how to sing, “thank you, Lord, because you made me beautiful.”
As Abdoul was preparing to return home, he told us about his big dreams:
“I didn’t have the chance to be enrolled in school, but I hope to do so as soon as my legs will be healed. I would like to be a Minister of State when I finish my studies and also to tell the story of Jesus to all the people of Niger . . . through me, they will learn the story of Jesus and His healing power. Thank you, CURE, and all the people who are helping us!”
Children like Abdoul rely on generous supporters like KSGN listeners in Southern California–and you!–to make their life-changing surgeries possible. Thank you!
“CURE is deeply thankful for committed partners like KSGN who share our vision to serve the most vulnerable children and proclaim the kingdom of God,” said Justin Narducci, President and CEO of CURE International. “Together, we are working toward a day when every child has access to the life-changing surgical care they deserve!”
