Inside a CURE Operating Room: Where Miracles Happen Every Day
Across CURE’s network of eight children’s hospitals, there are 27 operating rooms—each one a place where children living in poverty receive specialized surgeries that free them from disabilities like clubfoot, bowed legs, cleft lip, and hydrocephalus.
These rooms have been called a picture of heaven on earth, where the love of Jesus is tangibly demonstrated. Christian radio host, best-selling author, and CURE Ambassador Brant Hansen has observed dozens of surgeries at CURE and puts it like this: “What happens in the operating room is the most beautiful, poetic worship service I’ve ever seen. It’s a holy place.”
But have you ever wondered what it takes to make one of these surgeries happen? Let’s look at the people, supplies, and equipment that go into providing the highest-quality care to children at CURE.

The First Step: Prayer
Before every surgery, surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and support staff pause together to ask God to guide their hands, protect the patient, and bring healing. It’s one of the most powerful ways we provide Christ-like care to the children we serve. Every successful operation depends on God’s grace—and on the faithful support of people like you who believe every child is made in His image and deserves the chance to thrive.
Surgical Team: The Hands and Feet of Jesus
Without a well-trained, experienced clinical team, no surgery can happen. Inside a CURE operating room, every person plays a vital role. The surgeon performs complex procedures to correct physical disabilities. The anesthetist carefully monitors the child’s every breath to ensure safety and comfort. Around them, scrub nurses and surgical technicians prepare the instruments and maintain sterile conditions. Each team member represents years of education, training, and dedication.

Essential Tools for Transformation
Behind every successful surgery are the essential tools and supplies that make it possible. Each year, CURE hospitals perform more than 20,000 life-changing procedures—requiring a steady supply of gowns, bandages, sutures, and countless other items. In places where resources are scarce and infrastructure is unreliable, CURE is building a network-wide system to purchase, store, and distribute critical medical supplies, ensuring every hospital has what it needs when it’s needed.
Life-Saving Equipment
Every CURE hospital upholds the highest medical standards, ensuring all our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to serve children with excellence. From anesthesia machines and vital signs monitors to portable x-rays and CT scanners, this equipment makes complex surgeries possible. Thanks to the generous support of partners and donors, much of this equipment is donated and refurbished at CURE’s global distribution center, where volunteers and staff prepare and ship it to hospitals around the world. Once on-site at our hospitals, CURE’s biomedical engineers maintain and service the equipment to keep it running at its best.
