
Dr. Joseph Theuri
Medical Director / Kenya
Since 2011, Dr. Theuri serves as the medical director of CURE Kenya, leading all activities that involve patient care. He joined CURE immediately after his medical internship in Kijabe in January 1998 and completed on-the-job training in corrective surgery for children with physical disabilities for three years. In 2000, he was sponsored by CURE to pursue a degree in orthopedics at Makerere University, Uganda, where he graduated in 2003, after which he served as CURE Kenya’s assistant medical director from 2004-2011.
In 2006 and 2007, Dr. Theuri participated in the development of the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) orthopedic program at CURE Kenya and also the establishment of the Moi University Master of Medicine in Orthopedics program. He now oversees the COSECSA Orthopaedic training program at the hospital. This training program, which is also supported by the Pan African Christian Academy of Surgeons, trains orthopedic residents.
Dr. Theuri established a national clubfoot treatment program called Clubfoot Care Project for Kenya in 2005 and is the current director of this program. He is involved in leadership at the AIC Kijabe Local Church and is also a children’s Sunday school teacher. He and his wife Lillian have two sons, Daniel Macharia and David Mburu.
