CURE in Zambia

The picture above is of CURE in Zambia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Zambia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Mainess. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Mainess. When you give a gift through Mainess's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Zambia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Mainess. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

"We are hoping for the best" says Ackim, Mainess's uncle.

Mainess is a very shy girl but still likes being around people. She doesn’t like it when people stare at her but she enjoys company and playing games with them. Mainess was born with clubfoot. When she was a very young girl, her family took her to a hospital near their home village where she was fitted with a special shoe. After some time, they noticed that her foot was not getting any better so they took her to another hospital where she was fitted with yet another shoe. Sadly, this also did not work so they decided to try CURE. Mainess is all set for surgery but when she developed a cold our doctors decided to wait for her to get healthy before operating on her. She is now ready for surgery and excited to see a straight foot! Please be praying for her!

Oh, Mainess! We tried telling her smiles are free but she wasn't buying it. Mainess is back at CURE to get her cast changed. We pray she smiles soon because we miss her cute little row of pearly whites. Photo of Mainess

After many weeks of being in our hospital, Mainess was discharged today! She has been a little grumpy since her surgery and smiling was definitely out of the question. We are so happy that she is finally heading home! Please keep her in your prayers!

Mainess had surgery yesterday on her leg. She was feeling very anxious about the operation and spent most of the morning in tears. After the surgery, she was finally able to relax a bit with the help of a delicious lollipop and then life seemed a little sweeter for Mainess. The healing process can be scary and painful but we know that Mainess will be forever changed by her experience here! Photo of Mainess

Mainess has spent most of her day napping and basking in the sun. Her uncle put her in a wheelchair and wheeled her out of the ward for some much needed sunshine because Zambia has been a little chilly. She was full of smiles today but she is still looking forward to going home. Hang in there, little Mainess! Photo of Mainess

Mainess is doing very well today, although she's been confined to her bed, so her body can get used to the cast. A bit of boredom set in, especially as she was watching the other kids running around the ward, wishing it was her. Please pray for Mainess so she can get better soon and run around like all the other kids! Photo of Mainess

Mainess is now in recovery after a successful surgery and she is doing well. She was very nervous before surgery and so Dr Tshoma tried to keep her calm by entertaining her and blowing up balloons for her. Mainess calmed down, but still was not smiling. The surgery was fairly straightforward as Dr Lastroni released all tendons while reconstructing her whole foot. Mainess had an audience too! Our friends from Ada Bible church were there watching and praying over her during the procedure. Mainess has a cast on now and we're looking forward to the day where she will walk on straight feet! Please keep praying for her! Photo of Mainess
