CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Denis. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Denis. When you give a gift through Denis's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Denis. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

It can be pretty amazing how God sometimes sends just the right person, at the right moment, into your life! That was the case with Denis and his mom, Rebecca. Denis is a happy little guy, and is almost six months old. He's been hitting his developmental milestones - sitting with assistance, holding his head up, tracking objects, and smiling! However, a few weeks ago Rebecca noticed that his head was increasing in size, a sign of a potentially lethal condition called hydrocephalus. While she was taking him to the local hospital, she happened to meet someone who had a child who had been treated here at CURE Uganda! That man told her about CURE and encouraged her to come to Mbale so Denis could be seen by our doctors here. Denis has post-infectious hydrocephalus, and the surgeons at CURE Uganda are some of the best in all of Africa at treating his condition. It may seem like an amazing coincidence but we know that God is in control and provided just the right guidance that Rebecca and Denis needed!

Denis's parents are farmers, and he is their firstborn child. Denis has received the testing that he needs to be ready for surgery, and is just waiting for a spot to open up in the surgical schedule. For now, Denis and Rebecca are waiting in our patient hostel and meeting some of the other moms and babies there. We're so thankful for God's guidance in leading Denis and Rebecca to CURE Uganda, and we're praying that they continue to feel the love of God while they are here with us!

Denis and his mom had a pretty speedy stay at CURE Uganda! He recovered so well from his surgery that he was discharged over the weekend. We'll see him and mama Rebecca next month when they return for his checkup. Thank you for praying for this happy little guy!

Denis had his surgery today! Visiting Tanzanian neurosurgeon Dr. Happiness performed Denis' ETV/CPC procedure, which creates a way for his cerebrospinal fluid to flow more freely, and also will help his brain not over-produce fluid. The PACU nurses kept a close watch over him as he recovered, and he is resting now in the ICU with mama Rebecca nearby! Photo of Denis

This morning Denis was all smiles! His family speaks a language that not too many staff members at CURE Uganda speak, but nurse Tonny went out of his way to find a visiting nursing student who spoke the right language and could help translate! The CURE Uganda nurses are so amazing, and go above and beyond to care for their little patients and their families. Denis and his mom are resting in the patient hostel as they wait for his surgery date, which will hopefully be later this week! Photo of Denis
