CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Fatia. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Fatia. When you give a gift through Fatia's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Fatia. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Baby Fatia's mama, Flania, was happy to share the story of Fatia's name. Her family is Muslim, and Fatia's name means blessing. It's a beautiful name for a beautiful baby!

Fatia is the firstborn child in her family, and she was born with an occipital encephlalocele. This is a rare type of birth defect where part of the baby's body does not form properly during pregnancy and some of the brain and the membranes that cover it extrude through an opening in the baby's skull. Scientists aren't really sure exactly what causes this, but it might be due to a number of factors all at once. No matter the cause, we know that God loves little Fatia and her mama and has a plan for them!

Because mama Flania had an done ultrasound before her baby was born, the doctors were able to plan for a c-section, and they were able to refer her to us at CURE Uganda. Now they are waiting for our neurosurgeons and doctors to make a plan to provide baby Fatia with the very best care and a safe surgery. We're so thankful they are here with us and we pray that God would fulfill the promise of Fatia's name: that He would continue to bless her and make her a blessing! We pray that she and her mama would feel the love of Jesus while they are here with us at CURE Uganda.

Sometimes, no news is really good news!! That's the case for baby Fatia and mama Flania today. Flania brought baby Fatia in for her checkup right on time, and Dr. Jacob said that she's doing great! We'll see her again at our mobile clinic in the capital of Uganda in January. Thank you for your prayers for this sweet little girl; we're so thankful she's doing so wonderfully! Photo of Fatia

Baby Fatia and her mama were discharged from CURE Uganda this past Sunday! We're so glad they are able to go home and we know their family will be so excited to see them! Fatia will get her stitches removed at a local clinic near their home next week, and then they'll be back at CURE for her checkup appointment in September. Thank you for your loving get-well messages for them and all your prayers as Fatia continues to recover and heal!

Fatia is back in the ward now and doing well! Yesterday mama Flania was feeling really stressed and sad because Fatia had a fever, but they are both feeling much better today. Little Fatia is eating well, and her fever is going down. The nurses and doctors are keeping a close eye on her, and we know she's getting the best care. Flania is able to use her tablet to send text messages to friends at home - it's always such an encouragement to connect with a friend, especially when you're in the hospital! Thank you for praying for this little one and her mama today! Photo of Fatia

Baby Fatia had her surgery! CURE Uganda neurosurgeon Dr. Justin Onen and visiting neurosurgeon Dr. Bui Khuong Duy from Vietnam performed her surgery and it went well. She's now reunited with mama Flania and recovering in the ICU. She's doing really well, and when we spoke with Flania, she said that she was very happy! We asked how we can be praying for them, and Flania asked that we pray that Fatia would not develop hydrocephalus. Dr. Noah confirmed that because of where the sac on Fatia's brain was located, Fatia is at risk for hydrocephalus. We are praying that God would prevent that from happening. Fatia will be transferred back to the main ward soon. We're so glad her recovery is going smoothly! Photo of Fatia

Fatia is having her surgery today! We stopped by to chat with her mama during morning rounds, and she was understandably feeling a bit nervous. We were able to pray with her and encouraged her that our CURE Uganda neurosurgeons are amazing! Will you join us in praying that Jesus would give her peace and for a wonderful outcome from this surgery? Photo of Fatia

Little Fatia was a cool customer this morning! Despite having her pulse oximeter and temperature simultaneously taken by Nurse Sylvia, she didn't seem bothered at all! She was looking pretty cute in her pink and white outfit and took it all in stride. The nurses and doctors are keeping a close eye on her, and we're hoping she'll be scheduled for surgery soon!
