Isma and his twin brother Isa were born when Gloria was just seven and a half months pregnant with them. They weren’t healthy and stayed in hospital for a while under incubation and oxygen support but after a few weeks they stabilized and were discharged. A few weeks ago, Isma became restless and very irritable, so he was taken to a health center where he was treated, and he improved a bit. “One day while my neighbor was carrying Isma she told me that his head wasn’t normal and that I should see a doctor. I had noticed the size of his head, but I thought that it was just bigger than for his brother Isa. I never thought that it was a disease,” Gloria says. When Gloria was coming to CURE Uganda she had no idea of the gravity of her child’s condition. She thought he would just be given a few syrups and sent back home, in fact she didn’t even lock her house, she asked a neighbor to help take care of it and her firstborn thinking that she would return that very day. She was stunned when the doctors explained to her what was happening to Isma and that he would be admitted and have surgery. She called her husband to bring for her some clothes and requested her neighbor to continue watching her child while she is at CURE. A mother of twins in Uganda is held in high esteem, they call them “Nalongo” and Gloria says that she is proud of her twins because they have made her respected in society. Since giving birth to the twins, Gloria has not been working in her saloon but her husband whom she has been married to for four years is taking care of them, he is a truck driver. Gloria plans to resume work when the twins are a bit grown. Please join us in praying for Isma and encouraging Gloria!

“He use to cry all night but since they did the operation he has just been sleeping,” said Gloria. Today Isma had another blood test but this time his hemoglobin was in an acceptable range being raised from 6.3 to 12.2 which allows him to be discharged. Gloria would like prayers for Isma to become fine. Thank you for being her faithful prayer warriors! Photo of Isma

“Isma is much better. His temperature is back to normal and he is calm,” Gloria said. Our medical team was planning on discharging Isma this morning however when they took him to the labs for some tests to be run, they found that his Hemoglobin is low. It was 8.5 before surgery and is now 6.3. His doctor has ordered for a blood transfusion. Gloria is feeling really discouraged because she expected to be discharged today if it wasn’t for Isma’s low HB. Please pray that God gives her strength to stay a little longer as Isma gets his blood transfusion. Photo of Isma

“His head is not the way it was, it has reduced. I can already see the difference,” Gloria said. Isma had a calm night in ICU, his temperature kept going up a little, but he was stable and will be transferred back to the ward today. Last evening a friend to Gloria visited and brought for her a change of clothes and some other items that she needed from home. She then decided to stay at CURE Uganda and help Gloria with the twins. Gloria is praying that Isma gets healed soon so that they can go back home. Photo of Isma

“I know he will be ok,” Gloria confessed. She spent her morning washing her bedding and chatting with fellow mothers. The twins are loved by all mothers in the ward and they love carrying them which gives Gloria some time to rest. Isma is in surgery now, having an ETV/CPC procedure. He will be transferred to ICU where he will spend the night. Please keep him in prayer. Photo of Isma
