What am I giving to?

CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Joel. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Joel. When you give a gift through Joel's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Joel. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Joel was sickly after birth and a few months later he developed this condition. I took him to a government hospital for treatment, but my relatives convinced me that he had clan spirits disturbing him so I left the hospital and went and met with our clan leader who gave us some herbs. They didn’t work and his head just kept increasing more and more. His mother and I then decided to visit a bigger hospital which referred us to Katalemwa (partners of CURE Uganda). At Katalemwa is when we learnt about CURE Hospital, but we first returned home. At home however Joel’s condition kept deteriorating so we have now come,” Richard told us. He came with his wife Scovia. Back at home they have three other children who are now under the care of Richard’s mother and an aunt. Richard and Scovia are both peasant farmers, they grow mostly maize and beans which they sell and also consume at home. At their local church, Joel has been prayed for by the parish priest and Richard has faith that he will be healed. He plans to enroll him in school if God heals him. Please pray with this family for Joel's healing.

Joel gets to go home today, which has made everyone around him very happy! Over the weekend Joel received several get well messages which were delivered today. Martha from the NGO Nehemiah held them up for him to see them. We will see him for his follow-up at the clinic in Kampala at the end of next month. Thank you for praying for Joel, writing him, and supporting him during his time at CURE! Photo of Joel

“I’m okay, but baby is sick so I feel concerned, he was disturbing through the night,” said Scovia. Last night Joel continued to have fevers and a convulsion. Yesterday’s lab worked showed an elevated level of white blood cells, a sign of an infection, so he has been placed on antibiotics and is under observation. This morning Joel and Scovia attended the nurse’s devotion time which she enjoyed, Joel even tried to clap along to a couple of the songs. “I have been praying for a quick recovery for the child and for the medical team,” said Scovia. Please join Scovia in praying for Joel to recover well. Photo of Joel

“Joel didn’t have a good night, he has high fevers, didn’t eat well this morning, and is irritable - he is crying a lot,” said Scovia. Today Joel went to the lab where he had a CBC, urine analysis and has been under observation for fevers. Last night he had a fever of 102.2 Fahrenheit. Scovia and Joel had visitors from an organization called Nehemiah who brought them to CURE. “We should pray that he becomes fine,” said Scovia. Photo of Joel

“I feel grateful after the surgery. I can see no problem, I see good progress,” said Scovia. This morning Joel had a good appetite. He had a couple of pieces of bread for breakfast, however it was a battle for Scovia to get him up. He was quite content staying asleep. By 9:30 in the morning, he was out of the ICU. He and Scovia sat outside the ICU enjoying the company of other families. Joel and Scovia had a few visitors today who were excited to see that he was doing well. Please keep Joel in your prayers that he will continue to improve well! Photo of Joel
