We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Emmanuel. When you give a gift through Emmanuel's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Emmanuel. Three years ago, Gloria got married and after a year she and her husband had Emmanuel. He was born at home at exactly 6:00am and when it was noticed that he had a wound on his lower back, he was rushed to a health center near his home. The staff Gloria found at the health centre just gave her medicine to clean the wound and said that it would eventually heal, but it never healed. Gloria decided to visit a bigger government hospital and it is from there that she learned that Emmanuel has spina bifida. “Just after Emmanuel was baptized, pastor Chaka prayed for him to get healed, but many of my people told me that there is no way Emmanuel would survive with this condition. But I didn’t believe them, so I went to a hospital and one of the nurses told me to come to CURE. I have seen God helping me by directing me to this place and I know that He will use these doctors to save my boy,” says Gloria. Gloria and her husband are peasant farmers and the food they grow is mainly for their consumption. She is now thinking of having more children in the near future since there is now hope that Emmanuel will be healed. Your support is vital to enable baby Emmanuel's life changing surgery and we're thankful that you're part of his story. Please join us in praying for him!

“I am so happy to go home, he is fine and better,” said Gloria. During morning rounds, Gloria found out they were going home, and took no time getting ready to leave. She and Emmanuel were one of the first families to leave the hospital this morning. We will see Emmanuel at a follow up clinic in northern Uganda, on November 9. Thank you for supporting him and please remember him in your prayers. Photo of Emmanuel

“The child is feeling pain on the wound site,” said Gloria. As a result, Emmanuel is finding new and creative ways to lay on his mom. Gloria says he doesn’t have an appetite but she is seeing positive changes, “At the back he had a swelling, now the swelling is gone that is a good change,” said Gloria. Gloria and Charles attended church where Gloria learned, “I should live a life worthy of God.” Please be praying for Charles, that his pain will go down and he will have a quick recovery. “I was very happy because I knew God was on my side,” recounted Gloria about when she was reunited with Emmanuel yesterday. Gloria is very happy that Emmanuel is okay and yesterday’s operation was successful, she says he is doing and well just having pain on his back but he is feeding well. His doctors have no major concerns so they are transferring them to the ward. “People should pray that everything should go well,” requests Gloria. Thank you for being on Gloria's prayer team! “I’m feeling the baby should be operated on, I’m feeling good that the baby is going. The thing on the back should be removed. I’m asking God for the baby to be operated on well and for the baby to be well fast,” said Gloria. Emmanuel is currently in surgery for a myelomeningocele closure. After the operation, Emmanuel will spend the night in the ICU. Please be praying for Emmanuel to recover well from his surgery! Photo of Emmanuel

"I am the drummer in today's devotion. I am also a drummer at my church," Gloria told us with a smile in her face. Today, Emmanuel is being prepared for surgery and as for Gloria, she has met with some mothers who hail from the same region as she does (northern Uganda) and they speak the same language so she spends most of her time with them. She told us that she has hope that God will make the surgery successful. Your prayer and support is needed to make this possible! Photo of Emmanuel
