Elizabeth's Story

“I just wish that my daughter will grow up to worship the Lord and that we can give her a good life,” Maricel tells us, dreaming of her little daughter's future.

Three months ago, Maricel and Edward were blessed with the life of Elizabeth, their firstborn and little bundle of joy! Elizabeth was born with a cleft lip and palate which is a genetic disability. The news broke Maricel and Edward's hearts but they eventually learned to "accept what God has given them."

Seeking treatment for Elizabeth's condition in the middle of a pandemic turned out to be quite challenging. “I had to quit my job at a restaurant to take care of my newborn and Edward’s job as a company driver was put to a halt for two months because of the city's complete lockdown." Given the situation, there was no extra money to pay hospitals and doctors. Everything went to food and basic needs of the young family.

Thankfully, Maricel learned about Tebow CURE through one of their neighbors, giving them a new sense of hope for their daughter’s future.

Elizabeth’s name means “My God is abundance” and Elizabeth’s family is looking forward to experience the fullness of God’s power and love as she undergoes surgery! Join them as they embark on their healing journey with us!

We were so delighted to see sweet Elizabeth again! Thank God her wounds are healed and Nurse Francis removed them carefully, revealing Elizabeth’s cute upper lip! Maricel was advised to continuously apply ointment and massage Elizabeth’s lip to minimize the appearance of a scar. Before saying goodbye, Maricel and Elizabeth had a photo-op with Doctor Andrew, Medical Social Worker Mona, and Child Mentor Patricia. We will see them again in September for Elizabeth’s palate repair! Photo of Elizabeth

And just like that, Elizabeth and Maricel’s stay with us has come to an end and they have been cleared to go home. With the strict implementation of our one parent per patient policy in the hospital during this pandemic, processing some requirements can be a challenge for parents while they attend to their child. Thankfully, PhilHealth officer May lent Maricel a hand in carrying Elizabeth while she signed some documents before going home. “I thank God that the surgery we have long waited for has finally come true. Her dad cannot wait to see her,” Maricel told us with gladness. We will see them again next week for a follow-up! Photo of Elizabeth

Elizabeth was wheeled down to the OR while sleeping in Maricel’s arms. Little does she know, she will already be cleft lip-free once she wakes up! Doctor Andrew together with the medical team did an excellent job stitching her upper lip, giving Elizabeth a brand new smile! Just like how Elizabeth in the Bible was miraculously given a son despite all odds and impossibilities, little sweet Elizabeth was miraculously and successfully given a new smile through surgery thanks to your prayers! She is now back in the ward getting some rest and recovering! Photo of Elizabeth

Elizabeth's mother Maricel first heard about us here at Tebow CURE when their neighbor connected them with one of our partner organizations, Seeds of Dignity, a few months ago. Seeds of Dignity helped them find their way to our doorstep and Elizabeths has finally been admitted for surgery! She instantly made herself comfortable and began befriending Nurse Vanie while Maricel signed some documents needed for the admission process. Please pray that she will continue to have a comfortable stay as she spends a few days with us and that her surgery will go well! Photo of Elizabeth
