CURE in Philippines

The picture above is of CURE in Philippines. Everyone who serves with CURE in Philippines, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Emmanuel. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Emmanuel. When you give a gift through Emmanuel's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Philippines. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Emmanuel. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Emmanuel's Story

“I am in first grade and I write in school! I don’t really have a favorite subject, but I know that when I grow up, I want to become a lawyer! I’m not sure why.” says Emmanuel with a shrug.

Emmanuel has a lot of things that he wants to do especially play basketball live and watch a game on the TV. “I have four kids. Two of them have cleft lip and palate. Emmanuel is one of them and then his little brother Erron. I’ve always hoped for Emmanuel to get surgery so his mouth won’t bleed anymore when he falls on his face as he plays. It’s just too open and vulnerable. I also don’t like that he gets bullied and called ‘bungi’ (cleft lip) at school. He goes home crying at times. It hurts me,” shares Emmanuel’s mom Rhea.

Rhea, who also had cleft lip surgery when she was six years old, understands what her child goes through on a daily basis. This is why she is happy to know that there’s an opportunity for Emmanuel’s lip to have surgery like her! “He can be a handful at times but he helps out a lot at home especially when I need someone to fetch a pail of water. I am excited for him!” adds Rhea.

Because of your help and our partners from Free to Smile Foundation, we are able to provide life-changing surgeries to kids like Emmanuel!

Emmanuel is back a week after his surgery! His sutures are healing well except that there’s a minor area in his lip that ripped open. He will be back to come visit us in February to schedule his lip repair. For now, his lip has to heal completely first. After playing with him and baby brother Erron, we made sure to take a photo of them along with the other patients during our cleft camp and bade them goodbye. Some of them will be back for their palate repairs and we are excited to see them again! Photo of Emmanuel

A day after his surgery, Emmanuel is already up and about! He visited the playroom where he eagerly listened to Child Mentor Patricia as she told him a story about hope and love! Patricia shared with Emmanuel the good news of healing and forgiveness that Jesus Christ offers and how he is loved by Him! As a response to his faith, Emmanuel prayed with Patricia to allow Jesus Christ to enter into his life and become his best friend! Emmanuel means, “God with us!” and we celebrate with him as he begins not just his journey of healing but his journey with God as well! We will see him again next week for his follow-up appointment!
