CURE in Philippines

The picture above is of CURE in Philippines. Everyone who serves with CURE in Philippines, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Kurt. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Kurt. When you give a gift through Kurt's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Philippines. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Kurt. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“I love mathematics and I love going out with my friends Ryan, Alexis, and Daryl.” These are some of the things that spark joy in Kurt!

Kurt is the eldest son of Odesa and Bernie. With the joy and excitement of having a firstborn, it became a shock to his parents when they noticed Kurt’s condition as he grew older. “When Kurt started walking at the age of two, we started to observe that he would walk on tiptoe, and he couldn’t balance without support,” Grandma Concepcion tells us. They went to seek medical help to be able to address his condition. “He also did physical therapy sessions but it only went about three months since it is too expensive to sustain,” she adds. Odesa, Kurt’s mom, works as a vendor at a town far from where they live and his dad is currently away from the family, so Grandma Concepcion took on the role of raising and looking after Kurt and his two other siblings, Ynre and Edsa.

Growing up with this condition, Kurt has difficulty walking long distances, and it has stopped him from living his life to the fullest since he can’t join sports and is being bullied by some of his classmates. Kurt is blessed to have gone to our mobile clinic in their city last March where he was seen by our team! When asked why he wanted to have his foot treated, he said: “So that I can focus on my studies now without getting discouraged from all the bullying.” Despite all these hurdles, he continues to show how strong and smart he is by being on the honor roll and wanting to become a lawyer someday! Thanks for your support as we get to help Kurt over these hurdles!

After 3 weeks of working hard in his walking exercises, Kurt is finally heading back home! He was prescribed a muscle relaxant to help control and strengthen his leg muscles and improve his balance. It’s indeed a merry Christmas for Kurt and Grandma Concepcion as they have experienced the gift of healing and hope that Christ gives! He will be back next year for a follow-up! Photo of Kurt

After spending a good amount of time back home with family and friends, Kurt is back to stay for a couple of weeks in Davao City to focus on his physical therapy. He has been spending 2 days a week on PT sessions to strengthen his legs and practice walking. As a reward for working hard this morning, he spent some time playing Sonic Racing with other kids at clinic! Photo of Kurt

Kurt visited our clinic again and had his casts removed! He had his casts taken off last time since they got wet during the flooding, but this time they came off because he is now ready to say goodbye to them and start walking without them! Doctor Rayray advised Kurt to wear high cut boots to keep his foot flat and in place while he waits to be measured and fitted for a brace of his own! Kurt wasted no time and went right away to the nearby mall with Peter, President of our partner organization Seeds of Dignity, to buy a new pair of boots! Kurt and Grandma Concepcion were so glad that they can finally go back home and cannot wait to be reunited with their family. Not long after, we said goodbye to him and wished them well on their way! Please pray for Kurt’s recovery until we see him again for his brace fitting schedule! Photo of Kurt

Kurt came in earlier than expected for his follow-up at Tebow CURE because where he is staying has been flooded due to the heavy rains experienced in the city last night. He had to be relocated and his casts got soaking wet in the process. We thank God that Kurt and everyone else from the boarding house is safe. Doctor Shelley took the opportunity to check on his healing and was happy to inform that he is doing well! Afterwards, Nurse Francis gave him a fresh set of casts to keep his feet dry and in place until he completely heals up. He will be staying at the hospital for the night together with Grandma Concepcion as the house is cleaned up. Please pray for his continued recovery and that he will be able to go back to his home away from home soon! Photo of Kurt

Kurt spent some time in the playroom today where he hung out and played with the other kids! He also got to read some get-well messages and was greatly encouraged by your affirmation and prayers! All in all, Kurt’s surgery was a breeze and he went home joyful. We will see him again next month for his follow-up! Photo of Kurt

Kurt was wheeled down to the operating room early this morning. He was accompanied by Grandma Concepcion and was prayed for by Patient Ministry Coordinator Mary Ann. This allowed him to feel a sense of peace before he went inside the OR. Doctor Jun did a release on one of Kurt’s tendons. This lengthened the tendon and will allow his left foot to rest flat. Afterwards, Doc Jun proceeded to put both Kurt’s legs in casts since the other leg also needs some straightening to keep him from walking on tip toes. Grandma Concepcion was so relieved to see Kurt in the recovery room and she is grateful for her grandson’s successful surgery! Photo of Kurt

After months of waiting and praying, Kurt is finally here at Tebow CURE for his surgery! Kurt spent time in the playroom with a new friend named John David. Would you pray with us as he takes the first step on his healing journey? Please pray that Kurt and his family would experience God’s peace and comfort in this season. Photo of Kurt
