Rahina's accident happened six years ago when she was just four years old. She was playing outside when she had the idea to blindfold herself and see if she could still get around. Unfortunately, while walking, Rahina fell into the traditional cooking fire, badly burned her hands. To make matters worse, when the accident happened there was nobody else in the house. Her loud cries of pain alerted a neighbor who ran to her rescue. With no hospital nearby, Rahina received traditional medicine for her burns which ended up resulting in the melted skin healing in ways which force her fingers into permanently bent positions.
Rahina's parents learned about CURE Niger many years ago through a local hospital, but because of financial constraints, they weren't even able to afford the transportation here. But as Rahina grew and her disability began to inhibit her more and more, they knew they had no other choice. Life was so tough, Rahina dreamed about cutting her fingers free herself with one of their kitchen knives. Thankfully through hard work and sacrifice, Rahina and her mother are now here are CURE Niger and Rahina will get the surgery she needs to free her fingers and open up her future!
Rahina's mother told us that when she set her feet into this hospital, she was really touched by the warm welcome that she has received from our staff and some of the fear she had began to vanish. Her prayer is that her daughter's surgery will be successful and that she may live her life without any constraint!
Rahina has been doing great. So great that she was discharged by the doctor to continue her recovery at home. As she was leaving very early this morning, we were happy to have met her sitting with her mom at the front gate of the hospital before they caught their ride home. Please be praying for her until we see her again!
Rahina's surgery went well and her fingers are now straight (although wrapped up in bandages)! We found her this morning in the ward sitting next to her mother. Rahina is feeling a little pain from her surgery wounds but our nurses have it under control. Please, keep this young girl into your prayers!
Help us welcome Rahina to CURE Niger! Rahina is going to have a surgery to release her fingers from the bent position they are currently stuck in. Please, pray for her as she starts this healing journey with us!
