Idrissa's accident happened seven years ago when he was just three years old. His sisters were going to town and he decided to follow them without them knowing. Arriving at the highway, they all crossed and the little Idrissa wanted to cross too. Unfortunately, he got hit by a car and broke his foot badly. It was only then that this sisters realized he had been behind them the whole time. They immediately called the ambulance which took Idrissa to the hospital. Not only was his foot broken, but most of the skin from the top of his foot was gone - he received a surgery, and even though the bone healed well, the skin graft didn't. The new skin on the top of his foot eventually started to contract, pulling his whole foot upwards into an unnatural and unusable position.
At school, the other kids often call him "the one with the guinea hen's feet".
Today, Idrissa has come finally to CURE Niger with his mother for surgery. His mother had learned about us through her neighbors. She said she is happy to be admitted to our hospital and is full of hope for her son! Idrissa is also excited to see his foot fixed and he would like to be a policeman when he grows up - he didn't say why, but maybe in the future he can be the one protecting other little kids from running into busy roads!
We caught Idrissa in the bandage change room this morning and were happy to learn he has been recovering well at home. He has been jumping around and even climbing trees. At times, his mother has to be very firm with him so he takes better care of himself and his new foot. Let's praise God for his good progress and continue the prayers for Idrissa's complete healing!
Idrissa has been recovering well from his surgery. So well that he was released from the ward to continue his recovery at home! We will check in with him again next week when he comes back for his bandage change. Please continue praying for a rapid recovery at home!
Idrissa's surgery went well! Dr. Anthony cleaned away the poorly-healed skin from the top of Idrissa's foot and then took some skin from his lower stomach to replace it. Once this heals, the team will be able to operate on Idrissa's toe joints. Please pray for him as he recovers.
Join us in welcoming Idrissa to CURE Niger! Right now the skin on his ankle and the top of his foot has distorted, making him unable to use his foot. But soon surgery will fix that! Let us pray that it will be successful!
