Fati was just two years old when she accidentally dunked her hand into a pot of boiling water her mom had been heating to eventually warm Fati's bath. Fati's mom had momentarily left the pot in order to fetch more water and in that brief moment, Fati's life changed. Fati's screams brought her mother running back, but the burns to Fati's hand were instant and bad. Their local hospital was able to help Fati heal, but they weren't able to prevent Fati's melted skin from healing over the inside of her knuckles, making Fati unable to straighten her fingers.
In the 14 years since the accident, Fati has had to struggle through not only the physical limitations of having a less than functional hand, but also the emotional stress of being different than everyone else. Her peers often laugh at her and mock her, which makes leaving the house an unattractive prospect - she spends most of her time at home.
Fortunately, just a week ago, Fati came to visit a relative who lives near us here at CURE Niger. One of this relative's neighbors saw Fati's hand and recommended she come show it to our doctors. Fati did this and was amazed that we can help her. After 14 years of yearning, Fati's life is about to change!
Fati is finished with the bandage wrap and her fingers are perfectly healed. The consulting doctor sent her to the physical therapist to start the massage and be taught how to do the massage herself at home. Her healing is progressing very well. Let us continue to pray for her total healing.
Fati is back for yet another bandage change. It's a long process with many bandage changes and wound cleanings but they're all important in order to make sure she heals properly! Please pray for patient and perseverance for her!
We are happy to have met Fati waiting her turn to enter the bandage change room. The nurse in charge told us that they are going to undo Fati's bandage and send her to start her physical therapy exercises which is exciting progress! Please continue to pray for her total healing.
We are really happy to have met Fati, this morning in the dressing room just when the doctor finished changing her bandage. Her face is so full of joy because her health is improving, and she told us that she is thanking God for her wound that is healing well. Let us continue to pray for her total healing.
We were happy to learn from the doctor that Fati has recovered well from her first surgery. She will be scheduled very soon for a second surgery to have a skin graft. Please, continue with your prayers for Fati as she prepares for this step toward her complete healing!
Fati is ready for her weekend as she is done with this week's bandage change. Fati told us that she has a lot to of stuff to accomplish at home. That's why she was very early for her appointment. We wish Fati a good weekend and we hope to see her again next week!
We are happy to meet Fati again this morning! She is back to have a bandage change. Fati has been enjoying her stay at home and has been doing a lot even if her hand is wrapped with a bandage. Please continue your prayers for Fati's complete recovery!
Fati is feeling much better. She had a great weekend and she no longer feels uneasiness during the night. Today we met her at the bandage change room and learned her wounds are healing well. Dr. Anthony also said she can start her physical therapy on Wednesday! Praise the Lord for progress!
Fati is back at CURE Niger for her first bandage change after spending a few days at home. She is recovering pretty well, even though during nights, she struggled with some discomfort. Please, keep praying that Fati's recovery may be rapid and effective!
Fati is done with surgery! The procedure took awhile because Fati's fingers were curled in pretty tightly - "Her condition is normal because she's gone so long without surgery," said Dr. Anthony as he was performing the operation. "But it's not her fault - it's hard to find a place in Niger that can do this operation." On top of that, Fati's from a rural area, which could mean her family has limited financial means to pay for surgery. It's a huge blessing that we were able to connect with her and that now, after so many years she'll have the chance to regain full functionality in her fingers - pray that she and her older sister who are here with her would be touched by the love of God as she heals here.
Please, help us welcome Fati to CURE Niger! Fati is 16 years old and is going to finally have her right hand's fingers released after being burned 14 years ago! Please, pray that Fati's surgery and her time here with us would be a success.
