CURE in Niger

The picture above is of CURE in Niger. Everyone who serves with CURE in Niger, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Safi. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Safi. When you give a gift through Safi's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Niger. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Safi. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Safi is from a town near Niamey where CURE NIger is located. "I do not exactly know how Safi's parents felt when they saw their daughter had bow legs. I just heard that the father asked why in a million people would his daughter be the one with bow legs, Fati Safi's grandmother said. Safi's parents started asking if there was a way they can find treatment even before they left the hospital after their daughters birth. "Since we do not live in the same town it is hard to see how they went about looking for treatment. All I know is that everybody in the family was looking for a solution as none of us have ever seen or heard of the condition, Fati told us. One day one of Fati's daughter's husband heard of CURE Niger from someone in town. When he heard about CURE Niger he said he knows that place but he always thought it was just a company of some sort. He then came to check it out and when he had enough information he told his family and Safi was brought. We have not really experienced what her condition does to her but we are happy we can fix it now said Fati.

Safi came in today for a doctor's appointment today! While she was waiting, she got to play outside with the spiritual staff who had brought out legos and puzzles. She says her legs do not hurt, but she prefers sitting down to standing. She also says she absolutely does not like walking with the walker! She ended up getting an x-ray which she brought with her to see the doctor. He said her bone still has some strengthening to do so we will see her for another follow up appointment in one month! Safi is back at CURE Niger! We are so happy to see that she is doing well. She got to see the doctor and he was happy with her progress. He says that she has really strong bones and they are healing quickly. She will get them cast up again just to be safe and then will come back in a month. Pray for her that she continues to make great progress and get even stronger! Photo of Safi

Safi has had her surgery! The doctors made the call to work on both her legs at the same time. What they did was first take a wedge out of her bones which gave them the space they needed to correct the angle, making them straight. After putting the bones back together, the doctors measured two iron rods that they put in each of her legs to maintain the straightness! It was a long but straightforward procedure and Safi is now resting in the ward! Photo of Safi
