Zina's Story

"Even if she won't have a normal life she needs to at least be able to take care of herself," Rakia, Zina's mother said. Zina was only four years when she she was burned. She woke up like every other morning and took a shower, but since it was duri… Read more

"Even if she won't have a normal life she needs to at least be able to take care of herself," Rakia, Zina's mother said. Zina was only four years when she she was burned. She woke up like every other morning and took a shower, but since it was during cold season she went and sat by the fire to warm herself. She was still feeling cold so she got closer and did not see when the lower part of her dress caught on fire. "She screamed but no one was there to help her, I was out at the market and her father was in town also. By the time she got help the dress was burnt up to the waist," Rakia told us. Rakia was still not back so the neighbors who had come to her rescue took her to a hospital where they cleaned the burn. Zina and her parents went back to the hospital regularly to get bandage changes. When the burns began to heal, her legs started to stiffen with her knees bent which prohibited her from walking. Her parents took her to a bigger hospital in another town where they told them that there was nothing they could do but if they waited until her burns are completely healed then they can send her to CURE Niger and that is how they heard about us! Join us in praying for Zina's healing!

Zina had her surgery! The doctors did as planned, they graphed skin to put on her legs. The doctors decided to only do it on one leg because they saw the flexibility on the other leg was already good and did not need to be worked on. Thank you for keeping her in your prayers! Photo of Zina
