"Everyone was asleep when a light bulb exploded and caught the house on fire," shared Fati (Rayanatou's mother). Rayanatou is a two-year-old girl that was burnt in a house fire. When the house caught on fire they didn't notice until Rayanatou's father smelled the smoke. By the time he woke up, half of the house was in flames and the children's room was burning causing Reyanatou's injury. They quickly called an ambulance to take her to the hospital where the burns were cleaned but no work was done to reconstruct her face. Rayanatou cannot open her mouth as wide as she could before her accident and cannot shut her eyes because her eyelids have healed with contractures. "She started to get eye problems so we took her to an eye doctor who said it was because she could not close her eyes. He told us that she could get help and that she would be able to open her mouth and close her eyes. That was when he told us about CURE Niger, it was the first real hope we ever had," said Fati. Thank you for making hope possible for Rayantou's family through your prayers and support!

Rayanatou had herself a successful surgery! The doctors had to reconstruct her nose and mouth so they used a technique called graphing. Graphing is when you take skin from one part of the body to rebuild another. They graphed skin from her stomach to put on her nose and mouth. Please pray for Rayantou's recovery, that she would be both patient with the process and that her new skin would attach well without getting infected! Photo of Rayanatou

Rayanatou is here at CURE Niger! We are so excited to have her with us while she receives treatment for her burn contractures. She is a bit shy and won't talk a lot but she does like playing with tour other patients! It's good to see a child feel free even in a strange place. Pray for her as she gets ready for surgery!
