Youssoufa is a happy little man with an endearing smile that stretches from ear to ear. Unfortunately, as his mother tells us, the people in his village don’t share his enthusiasm for his life. Youssoufa was born with a cleft lip and his neighbors immediately began to speculate about the various curses that were upon this child. Shunning their postulations, Youssoufa’s mother has done her best to shield her son from the cruel comments all the while searching for healing. Thankfully, a local health clinic was able to refer the duo here to us at CURE Niger. Now that Youssoufa is with us, we will heal his lip and send him home with a brand new smile!

Youssoufa stopped back in for his follow up today and he is looking amazing! He's got a little scar from the surgery, but even that is fading! Please continue praying for him as his time here with us ends. Pray that the seeds we've planted here will take a hold and blossom into faith in the coming years, both in his life and in the life of his family. Photo of Youssoufa

And just like that, Youssoufa is bandage and stitch free! He'll be back in a few months for a check up, but our little guy is healed! Photo of Youssoufa

Youssoufa went into full on zombie mode as he was getting discharged this morning! While he's heading home today, he'll be back to continue his healing process as his wound needs regular cleanings in order to ensure that it heals well and he's left with as little a scar as possible. The surgery may be done, but the work is just beginning! Photo of Youssoufa

It's incredible! Most kids are normally in pain and spend their first day post surgery in bed, sleeping and crying. Youssoufa is already up, running around, and laughing his little head off! He starts the regimen of wound cleaning today and he will most likely go home tomorrow! Photo of Youssoufa

Thank you for all your prayers as Youssoufa went into surgery! He was smiling and playing with our medical staff right up until he got put to sleep. The surgery itself went smoothly and his cleft lip was sewed together with no issues. Our man is sleeping off the meds and we can't wait to see the results! Please continue praying as the days following the surgery are often the hardest. Photo of Youssoufa

Youssoufa was actually with us about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, he misheard our instructions and ate breakfast the morning of his surgery! This meant it wasn't safe for him to be put under and the surgery had to be postponed. He's now back and has learned his lesson. We're excited to get this lip taken care of! Photo of Youssoufa
