Gabriel has had a clubfoot since birth. “I just accepted him as he was,” his mom, Ruth, told us. “I didn’t know it could be corrected.” Thankfully, someone from the hospital where he was born told her it about treatment options. After a year of casting and braces, they stopped treatment. “I didn’t see it improving cause it was curved so then I decided not to continue,” Ruth explained.

Gabriel is four years old now. “It’s my sister who told me about CURE,” Ruth said. Her sister told her, “This hospital is the best one! You have to go there.” After coming to CURE Kenya, they started by applying a cast in preparation for surgery.

Ruth was nervous when she heard that Gabriel would need surgery. We sat down and spoke with her as Gabriel was waiting for surgery, and she became hopeful. “He will be okay because he’s not the first one to enter there,” Ruth said.

Ruth loves her son a lot and he loves her too! “He loves me most... more than anyone else!” Ruth says. She works far away, and so she does not get to see Gabriel as much as they would like. Due to this, Gabriel lives with his grandma. Ruth hopes that soon she’ll be able to live with Gabriel again. She has big plans for her son. She wants “to educate him and teach him the Word of God. Ruth named him Gabriel so she could remind him to trust in God alone.

Now that Gabriel is here for surgery, please pray that he and his mom will truly trust in God alone for his complete healing!

Gabriel and his mum visited CURE Kenya today for a doctor’s check up. After his cast was removed, the doctor looked at his leg and said that he was doing well. Gabriel and his mum were asked to take x-rays of the foot to determine if there was bone union and there was. Gabriel is healing okay but for now he has to wear a new cast for another six weeks then we’ll see him again. Photo of Gabriel

This awesome Gabriel smile is a result of us mentioning that he might be going home soon. This picture is from the operating room waiting area where Gabriel was cuddled by his mom to ensure that he didn’t get cold. Gabriel was waiting to go in for a cast change. He is so excited about going home, and we are happy that he got to have surgery and can recover at home. Please thank God for Gabriel’s healing. Photo of Gabriel

“Gabriel, how come you have two balloons?” Gabriel replied, “One is mine, and the other one is for my best friend back at home, his name is Manu!” Gabriel told us that he goes to school with Manu, and they live fairly close to each other. Gabriel misses his best friend and is looking forward to seeing him soon. Before Gabriel can go home, his swelling needs to reduce so that he can be cast properly. Please thank God with us for the progress Gabriel is making. Photo of Gabriel

Gabriel is sporting a cute Christmas sweater today. We’re having unusually rainy and cold weather in Kenya, but Gabriel and his mama, Ruth, braved the outside for a few photos. We’re grateful for them being here together and for Gabriel’s surgery this week! Photo of Gabriel
