CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Phiona. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Phiona. When you give a gift through Phiona's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Phiona. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Phiona would come home after school most days crying because people abused her, calling her names and saying bad things,” Veronica, Phiona’s mother told us.

Meet Phiona, a really sweet girl who is 11 years old and is the fourth born in a family of five children. It is possible to say that she was not born with a disability because nobody noticed until just recently when her mom saw a difference in her walking style. Veronica took her daughter to a hospital near their home, and the people she found there let her know about a CURE Kenya mobile clinic in her town.

Veronica planned to bring her daughter to the CURE clinic to find out if she could get any help. When they reached the doctor’s consultation room, they were very optimistic. When they were told that Phiona could get corrective surgery, they were ecstatic! “I just trusted God for provision,” Veronica said. This was so encouraging to hear! Veronica’s approach to challenges and adversities is believing and trusting in God. When we asked Veronica how she felt when her daughter came home crying because she was called names, she said, "God in heaven saw everything that was happening and He would in His time change the situation."

Phiona and her mom are now at CURE Kenya, and they are very positive about the operation. Please ask God to heal Phiona both physically and emotionally and for their strengthened faith.

The picture on the right is Phiona’s favorite from her coloring book. When we asked why it’s her favorite, she became shy and giggled with her mom. Whatever the reason, we’re glad she had something to distract her as she waited to go home. Now, her wait is over! She’ll be going home today. Photo of Phiona

Books are a great reward after doing some walking practice! Phiona read to us for a bit after she sat down in the playroom. Shortly afterwards, Pastor Emmy sat down with Phiona and the other kiddos in the playroom, and they sang and talked about Jesus. We’re hoping Phiona found joy as we sat together while she waits to go home! Photo of Phiona

Yesterday, Pastor Maiyo took some time to chat with Mama Phiona. “I wanted to know if she understands the gospel,“ he said. "She mentioned to me that she knows Christ and that God has been good." One of the ways God has been good to them is in Phiona’s transformation that took place this week in the operating room. Phiona has already been up and walking which means that maybe, just maybe, she’ll be going home in the next couple days! Photo of Phiona

Phiona managed to go for surgery yesterday, and today she is recovering in her bed. It’s not uncommon to have some pain after surgery, and Phiona was dealing with that today. Thankfully, Bertha from our accounts department was visiting the ward and noticed Phiona’s discomfort. She alerted Stephen, Phiona's nurse. We’re so thankful to both Bertha and Stephen for helping to alleviate Phiona's pain. Photo of Phiona

Sweet Phiona’s smile needs a bit of coaxing, but do you see it there? She’s got a precious smile when it comes! We’re so glad Phiona is here at CURE Kenya to find healing, and we’re hoping that her healing will bring her even more smiles! Photo of Phiona
