CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Rosina. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Rosina. When you give a gift through Rosina's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Rosina. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Rosina's Story

“When her condition started she couldn’t walk anymore. I felt really bad every time she would ask me, ‘Mummy why can’t I walk?’” Jane, Rosina’s mum told us.

Rosina is a nine-year-old girl who was born with spina bifida, but her mum was able to get her treated through surgery. She was healed and she started walking. A few years later, Rosina started developing complications in her legs. Her knees became stiff and she couldn’t walk anymore.

Jane took her back to hospital where another surgery was done. For a little while it seemed like Rosina was healed and she would soon walk again. But this wasn’t the case. She got worse and this made her mum very frustrated. She did not give up at finding a solution. She learned about CURE Kenya from one of the caregivers at the hospital where her daughter had her first surgery.

Rosina had started going to school but, because of her health issues, she’s stopped going. Jane is hopeful that her daughter will be able to walk. “I hope she can walk even if she’ll need a little support, that's fine,” she told us. Once she’s walking, we hope she goes back to school! Please pray for Rosina. She needs this corrective surgery and we pray that it will be successful.

Rosina drank milk today. She played a game of peekaboo with us. And you know what else she did? She got measured for her orthotics! We’re so happy for her! We’ll catch her next week when she comes to pick up those orthotics that she was measured for! Photo of Rosina

If you were to meet Rosina, you’d have a blast! She surprises you with her faces, her silliness, and her joy. Today she had her splint removed and her wound is healing okay. Thank Jesus! After having her splint taken off, she made faces at us between hiding her face with her hands. She was so surprised by herself when we showed her the pictures we took. Rosina will continue to have her wound dressed for a few weeks more and then will come back for her braces. We hope for more faces then! Photo of Rosina

Little Rosina came back to CURE Kenya and she brought her mama too! She had her cast removed, but unfortunately she has a small wound on her right foot that needs some tender loving care. Thankfully, a splint instead of a cast was applied to her foot which will help make bandage changes easier. She'll be coming back for a visit next week and we'll be able to see how she's doing. Pray God heals her quick! Photo of Rosina

Someone had a crayon in her hand and crumbs on her coloring book this morning! Maybe she’d been doing some multitasking and having breakfast while coloring. We can’t blame her! Why not enjoy one more CURE Kenya breakfast in style before GOING HOME? Rosina had a lovely outpouring of Get Well messages from you all that we shared with her mama, and we told Rosina, “People in America are praying for you, you’re beautiful, and you will heal.” Thank you for each and every word you shared with our girl! Now it’s our prayer that your words and prayers will have such a great impact on Rosina until she comes back in June! Photo of Rosina

“She has recommited her life to Christ!” Pastor Phoebe shared with us. Who has? Mama Rosina! As for Rosina, she has a beautiful understanding of faith. Her mom tries to take her to pray sometimes -- maybe at church. But Rosina tells her mama, “Even we can pray and God hears our prayers!” Going to church is hard for Rosina because of how people treat her, so she hasn’t gone for awhile. Please pray that she’ll get to go once she’s healed! Also pray that she’ll get to go home over the weekend. The pediatrician said she’s doing okay, so we’re grateful for that! Photo of Rosina

“Toto,” that’s what Rosina told us of her balloon today. This is kiddo speak for ‘baby’ in Swahili. Rosina’s balloon is her baby! So what did we do? We sang ‘Rockabye Baby’ and rocked the balloon until ‘down went the baby, cradle and all’ and then all of the air went out of the balloon! “It is over,” Rosina said of her ‘toto’ until she filled the balloon up with air and said: “It is back!” Rosina is a blast and we’re thankful that she’s got enough air in her lungs to blow up her ‘toto’ again and again. Today she’ll be checked by a pediatrician and hopefully get to move out of the HDU. Thank Jesus with us for all of this! Photo of Rosina

“Yesterday the nurses moved us to the HDU because Rosina was struggling to breathe,” Jane shared with us when we told her that we had been looking for them in the general ward. Rosina had breathing difficulties after she came from theatre and so our nurses moved her to the HDU so she could access the proper equipment to enable her to breathe better. Today, Rosina is smiling. She is doing well and is looking forward to going back to the general ward. We promised Rosina that we’ll teach her a memory verse once she is back to the ward! Rosina had her surgery yesterday and we saw that God, through the hands of everyone in the operating room, made it a success! Please pray for her recovery and transformation! Photo of Rosina

Rosina may not be able to walk, but she can sit pretty and smile for us! We hope that someday this photo will be of Rosina smiling AND standing. Please pray for her in this! Photo of Rosina
