Janet might have come into our interview using a wheelchair, but judging by the roughness of her hands, she often resorts to traveling on all fours. Her feet are seriously deformed and almost look like a severe case of clubfoot. But her high degree of disability is completely trumped by her high degree of enthusiasm. As I called out her name, she gave me a toothy smile, and I could not help but instantly fall in love with her. She completely warmed my heart, eagerly sharing with me about how much she loved her school, her friends, going to class, and learning from her teachers.
I thank God for Joytown, the school she attends for disabled kids, and other schools like it that have taken upon the mandate of helping children like Janet gain a better life, one their parents might never have been able to provide. This year in May, Janet will be coming to CURE to have two surgeries done. One will be aimed at releasing the stiffness in both of her knees, and the other will target her deformed feet.
Honestly, I can’t withhold the excitement when I think about welcoming her into our hospital. This time around, our reunion will afford us more time, and I can’t wait to witness what God has in store for her and her healing. So now as we start preparing for May, I hope that you’ll consider joining us in her corner, rooting her on throughout her journey with CURE.
Janet needs to continue in her physical therapy and be serious about her stretching or her condition will revert back. Our doctors have ordered removable splints for her while she sleeps. We will see her again in a couple months to see how her legs are responding! A big day for our little one! http://bit.ly/VNnEP0
