Betselot is a friendly little girl! She came to CURE with her mother Meskerem seeking help for her hip problem. Her condition is called developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) which means her hip sockets are not in the proper position causing a length discrepancy between her two legs and thus a limp when she walks. Her family noticed her limping when she started walking and they took her to a hospital which in turn referred them here to CURE Ethiopia.
If her family had waited even a couple of more years, treating her condition would have been very difficult if not impossible. This sweet child would have then be forced to live with pain and difficulty for the rest of her life. But thankfully, Betselot is here and about to begin her healing journey!
Betselot got some eyeglass but it didn't take her that much time to lose one of the lenses! She is in great health and it is time for her to head back home. She will continue her recovery from there and return to CURE Ethiopia after few weeks for a cast change. We will see her again when she returns for admission!
Thank you all for your prayers! Little Betselot is showing a lot of progress from yesterday. She is eating well and feeling much better. Her mother Meskerem told us, Betselot is getting use to her new big spica cast. Continue praying for her as she recovers!
"She is not eating that much. Other than that, she is doing well" Betselot's mother Meskerem told us. The nurses are taking good care of her. She also has her barbie to keep her company while she continues her recovery. Please keep on praying for her!
Betselot's operation went great! The doctors did a beautiful job putting the head of her femur bone back into her hip socket. After placing it in the right position, they applied a spica cast which covers the lower part of her stomach and goes all the way down to her foot. Now Betselot is back in the ward recovering!
Before going to the OR we found Betselot running around the ward and having fun while hiding from her mother. She is having her first surgery today. Please pray for this little one as she starts her healing journey!
