”I want him to return to school and continue his education after his healing,” said Welay, Hiluf’s father.

Hiluf is the fifth and youngest child for Welay and his wife Abeba. He has four older siblings, two are sisters and two brothers. Hiluf and his family come from the northern part of the country and Welay farms to provide for his family with Abeba helping him around their farm. Hiluf has completed the fourth grade, but did not continue his education into the fifth grade. The road to school is long for him to travel to and as his condition worsened, it became difficult for him to travel the distance without becoming too fatigued. After going to neighboring cities and looking for answers for his son, Welay returned home to their small town. Not too long later, a previous patient of CURE’s told Welay about the treatment they received here and they made an appointment to come to the capital city and be seen. Hiluf hasn’t let his deformity get the best of him and still plays with other children. He even helps his father with the animals on the farm, though Welay insists he doesn’t. “I get worried he will get hurt and not be able to return back,” says Welay. Hiluf is brave and we are excited to see his life transformed!
