It’s true—CURE is all about helping kids heal through world-class surgical care. But we’re also dedicated to providing ongoing support to ensure patients can actively participate in their communities and maximize their mobility. We supply assistive devices, such as crutches, wheelchairs, and walkers, to all patients when needed to help them perform daily tasks and function independently during and after recovery.
CURE believes in the power of partnerships. That is why we work with generous organizations and donors throughout the world who supply our network of hospitals with the assistive devices needed to help our patients get back to being kids.
Assistive devices are invaluable to a child’s healing journey! After a child undergoes surgery, early mobilization is critical to helping them regain strength and function. To develop as normal, active kids, they often need assistance. Sometimes they require assistive devices for only a short time, and sometimes they need them forever. The important thing is that, with a little help, they can navigate the world on their own. And we’re here to offer them the ongoing guidance and equipment they need to grow up to be independent adults.
Learning to navigate the world with an assistive device can be challenging. It takes practice! Every CURE hospital is equipped with physical therapy specialists who help patients learn the ins and outs of their new device. We’ll teach them how to best utilize the device for their needs so they can explore the world at home and beyond. Learn more about physical therapy here.
