Hospital Executive Director (Various Locations) Multiple Countries |

CURE International Children’s Hospitals is currently accepting applications for Hospital Executive Director. CURE is a faith-based non-profit organization operating a network of eight children’s hospitals throughout Africa and the Philippines. We provide world-class surgical care and intentional spiritual care to children living with treatable disabilities, all of which is free of charge to the patients and their families. The employee headcount at our hospitals range from 100-150 with annual operating budgets averaging around $3 million USD.

The Hospital Executive Director maintains overall accountability for the operational, financial, spiritual, and clinical health of the hospital, as well as any related programs within the country, and is the primary spokesperson and representative of CURE International, the hospital, and specialty programs in the local community and host nation. They serve as the primary liaison with CURE Corporate Headquarters (located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA), the host nation government, and non-government entities within the country.  

Acting in a strategic and visionary capacity, the Hospital Executive Director seeks to equip, empower, and enforce the hospital management team to execute the functions assigned to their respective areas.  Additionally, they are responsible for creating and cultivating a culture where hospital team members thrive in fulfilling CURE’s mission, vision, and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Facilitate strategic planning for the hospital. Lead the hospital team in the execution of the objectives and initiatives coming out of the strategic planning process.   
  2. Provide oversight to and directly support and uphold the Spiritual Director in the execution of the spiritual ministry program in accordance with the CURE Essential Standards for Spiritual Ministry. 
  3. Provide spiritual leadership to the hospital team to influence team members to accomplish God’s purposes through their work.   
  4. Support both nationals and expatriates in the following ways:
    1. In conjunction with the Human Resources Manager/Director, facilitate the hiring of all staff necessary to operate the hospital and ensure adequate orientation and training of all new co-workers.  Empower the HR Manager to work closely with the MSC to establish fair hiring, performance review, and compensation policies and procedures.  
    2. In conjunction with the Corporate Human Resources Department and Global Outreach teams, maintain overall responsibility for the logistics and needs of both short-term and long-term expatriates and visitors to the hospital in an effort to ensure their personal success and value-add contributions to the hospital.  Empower local team members to execute the logistical details in this regard.   
    3. Empower the Human Resources Manager/Director to ensure that all expatriate and local staff have the necessary paperwork (work permit, residence permit, medical license etc) prior to starting work in accordance to the country's law.
  5. Collaborate with the Chief Program Officer and the Corporate Finance team, as well as the Finance Manager, on:
    1. Development of the annual consolidated budget for the hospital and its programs. 
    2. Overall financial management issues. Overall accountability for all financial transactions and reporting at the hospital.  
    3. Preparation and provision of materials for the hospital’s independent audit.  
    4. Overall responsibility for coordinating and managing an effective inventory management system to ensure responsible utilization of resources and monies.
  6. Work closely with the Corporate Advancement team on support-raising activities related to opportunities for in-country financial and gift-in-kind (GIK) revenue from individuals, businesses, other NGOs, and government entities.
  7. Maintain overall accountability for the management and maintenance and ongoing functionality and dependability of hospital facilities and equipment.  
  8. Maintain overall responsibility for the safety and security of patients, families, staff, and visitors by developing and implementing safety and security protocols and procedures.  
  9. Establish standards for practice management and patient ratification/experience and maintain the hospital’s policies and procedures consistent with SAFECARE standards and other relevant Ministry of Health/Medical Council’s guidelines.
  10. Ensure compliance with all local laws. Monitor changes in the local legal landscape and ensure that the hospital is prepared for compliance with new laws.    
  11. In coordination with the Medical Director, ensure that the hospital maintains compliance with all country medical laws and statutes and CURE quality and patient care standards. 
  12. Develop and maintain relationships with governmental and non-governmental agencies and the larger local community.  Develop and maintain memorandums of understanding (MOUs) that define and govern these relationships.  
  13. Submit written reports of all significant data/activities to the Corporate Office , in accordance with the timelines established. 
  14. Perform annual evaluations of the assigned team members, and set annual goals for these team members.     
  15. Ensure that no practice, activity, decision, or organizational circumstance that is unbiblical, unlawful, imprudent, or in violation of commonly accepted business practices or professional ethics, or in violation of the Statement of Faith of CURE is caused or allowed.  
  16. Ensure that financial planning for any fiscal year does not deviate materially from CURE’s priorities, risk fiscal jeopardy, or fail to be derived from a multi-year plan.  
  17. Ensure that all CURE assets are appropriately insured and that the hospital is adequately insured for any malpractice lawsuits.  
  18. Facilitate connections between hospital senior management team members and related Corporate functional areas to foster collaboration on various efforts and initiatives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management or related field.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a multi-disciplinary, medium to large sized team of professionals and non-professionals.
  3. Previous experience working in the healthcare industry for a minimum of 5 years is required.
  4. Previous experience as an administrator in the healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
  5. Fluency in English required. Fluency in one of the local language(s) may also be required depending on the location. 
  6. Knowledge of developing country settings and/or previous cross-cultural experience is strongly preferred. 
  7. Knowledge of The Joint Commission or SafeCare accreditation process is preferred.
  8. Fundraising experience and knowledge is a plus.
  9. Demonstration of a mature Christian faith with a close personal relationship with the Lord as evidenced by a strong prayer life, a commitment to and love for the Word of God, and a call to evangelism.  
Medical Equipment Procurement & Product Specialist United States | Operations

CURE International has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Equipment Procurement & Product Specialist at our Distribution Center located in Spring Lake, Michigan.

The Medical Equipment Procurement and Product Specialist is responsible for the procurement of medical equipment and supplies across the CURE network of hospitals. This includes purchasing medical equipment & supplies; as well as collaborating with Biomedical Engineering in order to maintain proper functioning equipment across the CURE network. The Medical Equipment Procurement and Product Specialist will work with hospitals to direct them to CURE equipment and medical supply standards to achieve continuity of care, and assist in managing the CMS platform. 

This is an onsite position and relocation assistance is NOT provided.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

PURCHASING (90%)

  1. Purchase medical supplies, equipment and parts in support of modernization in accordance with the CURE network standard. 
  2. Provide timely customer service in response to hospital equipment & supply requests. 
  3. Deliver on-time, accurate product and spend-related information to hospitals as needed.
  4. Identify, develop, manage, and maintain professional relationships with suppliers.
  5. Coordinate and request quotes or bids from suppliers/vendors.
  6. Manage creation, release, and tracking of purchase orders.
  7. Review and update current product availability information on a regular basis.
  8. Work directly with warehouse and accounting to resolve inventory, purchase order, and invoice issues.
  9. Assist the grants department in equipment selection and acquisition from both the LEPP & ASHA programs.
  10. Provide technical consultation and expertise to hospital purchase requestors. 
  11. Consult in capital equipment planning and procurement.
  12. Participate in regular MES meetings providing solutions to procurement challenges and network wide equipment issues.

CMS & ASSET MANAGEMENT (10%)

  1. Assist the network in best practice utilization of CMS for equipment maintenance and repair.
  2. Analyze CMS data for equipment upgrades and asset disposal.
 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelors degree in business, supply chain management, marketing or related field preferred. Certified Scrub Technician or Certified Biomedical Technician plus 1 year of professional experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelors degree.
  2. Purchasing experience in a hospital setting or equivalent equipment/materials management experience with a 3rd party medical equipment vendor.
  3. Three or more years experience in procurement and/or field service of medical equipment.
  4. Two or more years experience in conducting technical advising, training, and/or familiarity with CMS software, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Proficient in Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, and Zoom, preferred.

Pediatric Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Ethiopia | Medical

 

CURE International is seeking an experienced pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon who is interested in playing a critical role in the development of a first-of-its-kind operative spinal program at its hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We are committed to finding the right person for this role; therefore, we will consider qualified candidates interested in either a full-time or part-time, flexible schedule.

The pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon will contribute to the important work of transforming the lives of many children who would otherwise face a lifetime of disability, pain and discrimination. We are seeking a missionally-aligned spine specialist who will embrace this unique opportunity and who possesses a desire to train the next generation of spine specialists in Ethiopia.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assess patients with musculoskeletal disability, taking and recording a salient history, examination and formulating an appropriate management plan including relevant investigations and surgical or non-operative management.
  2. Diagnose and treat spinal disorders, identifying ways to preserve pain-free function through treatment and surgical intervention.
  3. Participate in traveling to mobile clinics in different parts of the country as organized by the hospital and assigned to by the head of orthopedics.
  4. Treat patients and families with care and respect, adhering to the highest standards of medical ethics.
  5. When surgical management is appropriate, undertaking careful consent, clarifying to the patient (where appropriate) and family member the nature of the condition and procedure that is advised, the risks, possible alternatives and nature of anesthesia required.
  6. Create pre-operative plans for each surgery, and where necessary, discuss with colleagues the surgical plans.
  7. Provide a high standard of surgical care, adhering to the highest standards of sterile operative technique while creating a cohesive team environment centered on safety and quality care.
  8. Record each step of patient care in the Electronic Medical Record and/or inpatient paper charts.
  9. Recognize complications that arise and respond appropriately, including discussing the event with the Medical Director and reporting it in the quarterly Morbidity and Mortality meetings.
