CUREkids Updates

Bethel
Zimbabwe - Age 8
"I am excited to see my leg straight," Bethel told us when we asked her how she felt about having surgery. Bethel is a sweet girl who loves to go to school and enjoys painting. She is at CURE Zimbabwe this week to correct the unnatural bow in her left leg. She greeted us with a big smile, and we immediately fell in love with her fun-loving energy. Please help us welcome Bethel to the hospital as she prepares for surgery today!

Panenyasha
Zimbabwe - Age 6
Meet Panenyasha! She is six years old, loves to go to school, and only recently started walking again. She is being treated at CURE Zimbabwe for a condition that makes her bones very weak and soft, so they bend and break easily. For the past three years, Panenyasha has not been able to walk until February this year. It was then that CURE's Dr. Rick prescribed medication for strengthening her bones. She's managed to get back on her feet and is now at the hospital waiting to have surgery to correct the bows and breaks in her legs first, then in her arms. Please help us welcome Panenyasha to the hospital!

Tatenda
Zimbabwe - Age 5
"I am happy to see Tatenda going in for her final surgery!" Mommy Fungai expressed. Tatenda had her third corrective surgical procedure on her right foot today. She bravely went into the OR, and the surgical team took great care of her as always. Dr. Collen carefully cut the top of her foot and transferred the tendon to the bottom side of her foot before securing it with a surgical button. Now, her foot is sitting in a normal position, with a cast wrapped around it to hold it in place for recovery. Tatenda will be on her way back to the ward shortly, and in the meantime, please pray for her as she recovers!

Ashley
Zimbabwe - Age 13
Thank you for your prayers for Ashley. He has recovered well and was discharged over the weekend! Although we didn't get to see him off, we are still keeping him in our prayers for a full recovery and look forward to seeing him back here at the end of the month! You can send him a get-well message, and we will deliver it to him when we see him next!

Nickel
Zimbabwe - Age 2
Nickel's surgery is the first of its kind to be done at CURE Zimbabwe. Dr. Gardner, assisted by Dr. Chitsamatanga, carefully cut and released the damaged tendons and muscles in Nickel's right shoulder and transferred some good tendons and muscles from just below his right shoulder blade. Nickel was stitched up, and his arm and shoulder were secured in a cast to keep them in a good position as he recovers from surgery. He recovered well over the weekend and was discharged home with his mother! We look forward to seeing him back here next month for a check-in with the doctor. In the meantime, please join us as we pray for Nickel's recovery and healing!
