CURE in Zambia

The picture above is of CURE in Zambia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Zambia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Chabota. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Chabota. When you give a gift through Chabota's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Zambia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Chabota. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“(Chabota's) father denies he is the father and he wants nothing to do with him,” laments Chabota's grandmother Cherine.

Chabota was born with a cleft lip which is an immediately obvious disability and enough of an excuse for Chabota's father to abandon all responsibility. Despite his father's aversion to Chabota's disability, Chabota's mother and grandmother still named him Chabota which literally means "something that is great" in their language. Despite the way his father and their community view those with cleft lips, Chabota's family still believe he is a gift and a great addition to their family.

They initially sought medical treatment for Chabota when he was three months old, but it didn't work out. They reluctantly gave up hope thinking they would just have to make the best of a bad situation. This was until one of our CURE Zambia mobile clinics took place near their home. Decked out in COVID PPE, our team held seven clinics in rural places across Zambia where we were able to meet and help restore Chabota's family's hope for his future! Please pray for Chabota that even as his cleft lip is healed in our hospital, he will know his worth and that he is loved by us, by his mother, and by God no matter what!

Chabota has had a solid weekend of recovering and is doing well. He has stabilized nicely and he is once again active! It will take a little while for the the surgical wound to completely heal, but there's no reason he can't do that from the comfort of his own home so he's been discharged! Dr. Felicilda wants to see how he is doing in a couple of weeks so he'll be back. Until then, join us in thanking God for Chabota's healing! Photo of Chabota

Dr. Felicilda did a cleft lip repair surgery on Chabota and the surgery was successful! This young boy's face will never look the same again in a really really good way. Hope has been restored! He is recovering well post surgery and our nurses are keeping a close eye on him. Photo of Chabota

Chabota was brought to one of our recent mobile clinics near his home. He was booked to come to CURE Zambia to receive a cleft lip surgery. Thankfully, they have made it to our hospital through the support of World Vision who helped transport them. Please welcome Chabota as he is getting settled in and getting ready for his surgery!
