"I became really worried when I saw the legs bending and the pain got so bad he couldn't even walk," Blessings' mother Consepta recalls.

Late last year, young Blessings' left leg began bending inwards and was soon following by his right. His legs progressed to the point where every time he walks, one knee painfully hits the other knee and this doesn't even take into account the pain he feels from his legs being at unusual angles and causing unnatural stress on his joints. Consepta was dismayed "I was so worried about him because he was born fine, but then this disability started. I was so worried, I could not even eat." No one was sure of the cause of Blessings' knock knees, but their community was adamant that going to a hospital was the worst thing Consepta could do. In many of the countries CURE works, the perception of hospitals is they are a place where people go to die and if the hospitals try to help with any medical condition, they will just make things worse. But Consepta was desperate to find help for Blessings so she defied all the voices in her community and brought Blessings to a local health clinic. This set off a long line of referrals which has resulted in both Consepta and Blessings arriving here at CURE Zambia! Now that Blessings is here, our medical teams will be able to surgically straighten his legs, removing the source of his pain, and opening back up this young man's future!

During Blessings' surgery, Dr. Moyo worked with Dr. Chintu, and Dr. Muntinta who are medical residents with us for three months. Not only are we healing kids, but we are also contributing practical training and mentorship to the future of Zambian orthopedics! Blessings' surgery went well. The doctors straightened his right leg this time around and he will have another surgery in the future to take care of his left leg. Please be praying for his recovery! Photo of Blessings
