CURE in Zambia

The picture above is of CURE in Zambia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Zambia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Samuel. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Samuel. When you give a gift through Samuel's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Zambia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Samuel. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“When I first saw him, I was heartbroken, but later I accepted and became thankful to God for him” says Annie, Samuel's mother.

Just like any new family, there is an inherent air of excitement that comes with the news of a new addition. Everyone gets excited and the preparations for the new baby become part of the daily routine. The waiting period is characterized with mixed emotions of anxiety and high hopes. However when Samuel was born it was a little different as the unexpected happened. Samuel was born with a disability which Annie had never seen before, a condition known as a cleft lip.

Samuel is now four months old and from birth he has had challenges with breastfeeding because of his lip. This had made him a burden on his family as they have to spend what little money they have on formula rather than the free, natural milk from his mother. He was born at a local clinic but was soon started on a long line of referrals to other hospitals. First for a specialized feeding program and then to another hospital that periodically hosted a plastic surgeon capable of fixing Samuel's lip. Once they arrived though, they learned it could be up to a year before Samuel might receive surgery. That's a year of gossip from neighbors. A year of spending all their hard earned money on formula. And a year of struggle in a life that needs no more struggle.

Annie and Samuel went home and did their best to carve out a life. People in the community sometimes made unpalatable comments about his condition, but Annies reminisces “if I had been hiding him, I don’t think I would have even known about [CURE Zambia].” One day Annie had gone to visit a relative and a neighbor saw Samuel. That neighbor told Annie about us here at CURE Zambia, because she knew someone who had brought her child earlier this year for cleft lip surgery. After getting information about CURE Zambia, Annie got in touch with us and Samuel was soon booked to get surgery!
